A reclusive student shot dead by police after stabbing four people in a California university campus attack 'had far greater intentions to do damage', Merced County Sheriff said Wednesday.
Faisal Mohammad, a freshman who majored in computer science and engineering at the University of California was carrying highly flammable petroleum jelly, ziptie handcuffs, night vision goggles, duct tape and a hammer in his backpack when he was shot in the back by cops.
In reference to the petroleum jelly, Sheriff Vern Warnke said: 'He had poor man's C4' - C4 being the dense, putty-like explosive used widely by the military and demolition teams.
Moments before he had 'smiled' as he used a 10-inch hunting knife to stab two students, a campus construction worker and a female teacher in a terrifying attack that was praised by an ISIS-linked Twitter account.
However police have insisted his attacks were based on 'personal animosities' and a 'vendetta', not a political agenda.
The 18 year old, described as anti-social by his roommate, was supposedly 'having fun' as he slashed the first student in the throat inside a classroom.
Overhearing the commotion, construction worker Byron Price, 31, intervened and was stabbed in his left side by Mohammad as he tried to stop the attack.
'He (Mohammad) had a smile on his face, he was having fun - which is more what bothers me,' Price told CBSFresno.
Sheriff Vern Warnke said that Price's entrance into the classroom likely prevented the death of the first victim who was attacked.

Perp was Faisal Mohammad.
How long before we start hearing that Faisal Mohammad is actually the victim here, driven to despair and violence by the aggression of the racists who booted him from their study group?
Or more properly:
He had the intent to do far greater damage.
or
He was intending to do far greater damage.
The quality or amount of his intent is not the subject. The actual intentions is the subject.
Sorry. It’s early morning and the quote instantly bothered me. You have to admit that it is an unusual sentence. :)
I wish we knew why a sweet, gentle follower of the Religion of Peace would do this. Investigators seem to be clueless when it comes to his motive, and they may never find a convincing bit of evidence to answer that question.
Well, there are the stock answers: Racism, Homophobia, Islamaphobia, America,Guns.
It is always the fault of America, some way or another.
He did not have his Al Queda membership card in his wallet, so it cannot be an act of terrorism or sudden Jihad syndrome...
I should add a /s to the above.
For those whose sarcasm detectors are set on “low”.
Yep, they are clueless. I am about 200% sure he is now feeling the fires of Hell. Hope he enjoys it, cuz it will NEVER end. What a clod.
Those damned Amish! /s
What they fail to grasp is in Islam there is no law. If you are a faithful Muslim, you are the law. That’s the basis of Sharia. So, he may not have been in contact with Isis or other terrorists, but he felt he was down with Allah and that’s all it takes. What do they think is behind honor killings? It’s the same Sharia law. Random murder is what you get by introducing a “diverse” group inside a law driven society.
(I get a nauseous feeling every time I hear “diversity.”)
If you are a responsible journalist, wouldn’t it be prudent to interview some of the members of the study group and find out why they kicked him out. Not a word about this in the article. Perhaps he was kicked out for rants about Islam and such. Oh well, I see the name of one of the writers of article, so never mind.
Bother me too. “His intention was to due far greater damage’’ or “His intention was to commit murder’’.
So he was building a clock?
I heard that last answer from a liberal neighbor yesterday - this knife attack is proof that we need "common sense" gun control. All liberals are either stupid or evil, and there is a lot of overlap between the two groups.
As long as there are people, non-Muslims, who don't understand the violent nature of Islam, it will be that much more difficult to stop these nuts.
Yes, it's the "what did we do to make them angry?" set. These people are almost as big a threat to western civ. as the jihadis. They're enablers.
I would like to know why he was booted from the study group .
Petroleum jelly and jellied petroleum are two different animals, the former is flammable but rather harmless beauty aid, the latter is an improvised explosive/flame weapon. think napalm....
” police have insisted his attacks were based on ‘personal animosities’ and a ‘vendetta’,”
Bull. The shooting of the reporters at Smith Mountain Lake was a vendetta. People with a vendetta target specific people. They don’t stab uninvolved people.
