EPA Chief Gina McCarthy is coming for your air conditioners
Hotair ^ | 11/05/2015 | Jazz Shaw

You’re not supposed to burn any coal or oil. You should probably avoid natural gas too, since it’s composed of hydrocarbons. Don’t drive your car unless it’s one of those battery powered ones that hasn’t caught fire yet. Get rid of those incandescent light bulbs all over your house. Clean all the steak and ground beef out of your fridge because cows are too flatulent. Have you checked all of these off your list? Good. Then you are finally doing your part and helping to end global warming.

Oh, we forgot one more thing… we’re going to need to confiscate your air conditioning. (Daily Caller)

EPA Chief Gina McCarthy wants the world to stop using hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) in air conditioners and other consumers products as part of President Barack Obama’s plan to fight global warming.

McCarthy is so determined to make this happen, she’s taking the lead role at an ongoing United Nations summit to expand the current global treaty covering ozone-depleting substances. The EPA chief hopes that her agency’s recent HFC regulations will convince other countries to join the U.S. in limiting the chemicals…

“Solutions are here, and it’s time to amend the Montreal Protocol to reflect that,” McCarthy wrote, adding that phasing out HFCs would avert 0.5 degrees Celsius of global warming by the end of the century.

Maybe it’s just me, but the same moment you’re telling everyone how much warmer it’s getting might not be the best time to take away their air conditioner. But leaving that aside for the moment, I’m not sure why McCarthy is invoking the Montreal Protocol here since it was put in place to protect the ozone layer. Hydrofluorocarbons don’t impact the ozone layer to my knowledge. There have been plans in the works for a while to replace these substances in air conditioning but you’re looking at moving to ammonia or dimethyl ether or one of a few other options. That’s not only an expensive switch, but the cooling efficiency goes down.

How do we deal with the issue of the moving targets being presented by the environmental warriors? I thought carbon dioxide was the big concern, even though the people going after power plants are looking at small ball goals when you consider that most of it is coming out of automobile exhausts. (Sadly for them, nobody supports you when you say you want to take away their cars.) And now it’s the coolant in our air conditioners. What’s next?

I’ve given up on trying to guess.

‘EPA Chief Gina McCarthy wants the world to stop using hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) in...’

Let me help here with a translation....Gina wants the little people to stop. The big people, like her, get to keep theirs. Liberals are all about forcing others to fulfill their dreams while opting out. Think school lunches for example, fuel consumption, gun control etc etc etc. In the liberal world they get to boss the little people around because everyone knows libs are the smartest people in the room...theyll tell you as much. ;)

Turn the AC off at the EPA headquarters and offices. Remove the refrigerant from all the EPA vehicles. Demand that all EPA employees remove the AC from their homes.

"What would I do with my stockpile of R-12 (dichlorodifluoromethane)?"

I sold my small cans that I bought for $0.88 each for $25.00 each.

I read at one time that R-12 smugglers in Florida were making more money than the drug smugglers.

Because abject morons chose lesser evil republicans over principled governance, no matter what, and as a direct result of their actions, no one in DC is left to bring charges.

Actions have consequences.

No problem, let’s go to Propane, a drop in for R-12, and Ammonia, the best refrigerant.
Aside from the safety issues though.

Patriots wake up!

The corrupt federal government has been front-ending itself for many generations with so-called ”independent federal regulatory agencies,” many such agencies actually having no constitutional authority to exist or to tell anybody what to do, the EPA a good example.

Establishing constitutionally fraudulent federal agencies allows incumbent lawmakers and executives to sit back and let non-elected bureaucrats exploit low-information citizens by making restrictive regulations that strip citizens of their constitutional protections, something that corrupt lawmakers and lawless executives cannot do themselves without risking losing the next election.

Remember in November 2016.

***stop using hydrofluorocarbons***

I guess we could go back to the deadly ammonia based air conditioning.

Skyscrapers in NYC and all government buildings in DC would be unbearable.

These people throw garbage out constantly just to roil the plebes and keep attention off the real issues like TPP, the cluster wreck in the ME and the economy which is turning down.

Air Conditioners Available to Low Income People with Medical Needs - 2014 Cooling Assistance Program

Note: Medicaid also may sometimes pay for an air conditioner.

I remember a few years back that the Black folks downtown complained about the excessive heat and wondered 'what will the city do about the suffering.'
The city distributed free box fans to residents within the city limits....that wasn't enough! Blacks started marching in the streets to protest the box fans and wanted AC. The 'city' finally started distributing free air conditioners.

A couple months later Blacks were back in the streets complaining about the power company turning off their electricity for non-payment.

Black leaders explained that the city knew when they distributed the AC's that these people could not afford the electricity to run them.

After a while, the power company 'rolled-over' over their 'hateful' actions.

Florida is uninhabitable with A.C.

It can be done. Grew up in Miami circa 40's,50's, 60's, didn't have air conditioning until I got married. High schools weren't ACed either. It was rough but can be done.
On the other hand, back then there was much less construction between the Bay and inland. Today with all the bldgs a sea breeze never reaches inland.
