It costs U.S. taxpayers nearly $65,000 to resettle one Middle Eastern refugee over the first five years, which is 12 times what it would cost to care for that same refugee in a neighboring country in the region, according to a new study.
The Center for Immigration Studies cites âheavy welfare useâ as the main reason why refugees are so costly to resettle. This flies in the face of oft-quoted comments by U.S. mayors who claim refugees add to their tax base and promote economic growth, making for a more âculturally diverseâ and âeconomically resilientâ city.
The CIS study indicates they are more of a drain on the economy than a boost.
The $64,370 cost to U.S. taxpayers over five years is a âconservative estimateâ presented in a new study released by CISâ chief researcher and statistician.
If the U.S. takes in 35,000 refugees next year from countries like Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia, which is a reasonable estimate for fiscal 2016, it would cost the U.S. taxpayer $2.3 billion just in the first five years. This does not include the cost of refugees from non-Middle Eastern nations, which will be another 50,000 refugees costing at least another $2.5 billion.

Obviously the real reason for the unlimited budget just passed.
Any guesses how many will be here before Jan ‘17?
I’m going with somewhere between 10M and 15M.
Cheaper to keep them out.
Our debt now $18.5 TRILLION. Your share of that as an individual taxpayer is $155,000! But that pales in comparison to your share of the unfunded liabilities which is a whopping $829,000. But who’s counting? lol
The country is going down the tubes.
Yes, no we know why Congress gave 0 another blank check- backed by the U.S. Taxpayers. To fund the completion of his Fundamental Transformation :(
Refugee my eye.
Cloward-Piven anyone???
There should not be unfunded liabilities. Those who caused this should be in jail. Every last person who stole money or didn’t put it into an account caused fraud. But not to worry, they have their pensions and became multi-millionaires so no sweat off their back.
What we have here is a serious case of financial legerdemain. Agree, the people who masterminded and perpetrated this fraud should be doing time. Its nothing more than stealing.
Shot, not doing time. They should be executed. Their families should be billed for the detail, not just the bullet.
This way, you see, other idiots who try this stuff in the future may think twice.
Right now, there is absolutely no disincentive for public officials in violating the law. None.
If you start shooting people, it does create at least a moment of pause. It also raises the issue.
I think its time now. Feels like 1935. If more shooting had been done, and less hand-wringing, I’m not sure either Stalin or Hitler would have made it. Even Forbes is telling us its time. If Putin is the most powerful man on the planet, its because he knows he can violate international law and get away with it. This is going on even as his country doesn’t have a leg to stand on economically, and probably militarily.
If we gave him all out conventional war, he’d have to fold his hand and walk away from the table. He doesn’t have the chips for it.
Just why should US taxpayers pay anything to “resettle” these people? I don’t see the uber-rich mideast moozlum aholes contributing anything.
We need Trump to do this. It’s going to become necessary.
“Just why should US taxpayers pay anything to âresettleâ these people?
We have been doing it for years-——why on earth would they stop doing it now?
It should have been stopped some time ago.
