The latest news on Mississippi's general election. All times are local.
12:23 a.m.
Republicans have boosted their majority to 71 in the state House.
But three races were too close to call early Wednesday.
The surge turns back Democratic hopes of trimming the GOP edge, which now stands at 67-55 in the chamber.
Redistricting created terrain for Republicans to pick up seats, boosting hopes that they would get to a 74-seat supermajority. With the supermajority, they would eliminate Democrats' ability to block taxing and spending decisions.
Republican challenger Vince Mangold on Tuesday defeated House Minority Leader Bobby Moak from Bogue Chitto. Democratic incumbent Sherra Lane of Waynesboro also lost, and Rep. Bo Eaton, a Democrat from Taylorsville, was trailing narrowly Tuesday.

Great news. State House Minority Leader Bobby Moak was soundly defeated after 32 years in office. It looks like Republicans will have a 73-to-51 majority in the state House of Representatives.

How is that “great news,” when the Republicans in MS are lead by that useless turd Hayley Barbour? Are these the same “Republicans” who screwed a conservative senate candidate in a runnoff election last year and allowed that “living corpse”
Thad Cochran, to remain in office so they could tell him how to vote? Please tell us all how this can be constrewed as good news?
Unseating an incumbent Democrats who is his party’s leader and has held office for three decades is a great victory. As for Cochran’s re-nomination last year, that was dirty pool, but it was only one election.
Republicans won across the nation yesterday in spite of heavy spending by Democrats and their allies.
I voted against the whole lot of them yesterday.
The Missisiiippi Barbour/McConnell/Cornyn/Rove establishment used Party money to pay Black voters, who had already voted in their Democrat primary to vote against the Tea Party winner ( McDaniels) on the primary election in favor of Thad Cochran, an establishment Hack that does what he is told by the power group. 6000 blacks crossed over to vote in the run offagainst the conservative!! At the expense of people who had given the the Republican party!!
Let me assure you that that is one solid reason we want TRUMP!!
Who is the “We” of whom you speak???
“Republicans won across the nation yesterday in spite of heavy spending by Democrats and their allies.”
Yeah, and I too used to regard that as good news, but in more recent times, the “new Republicans,” have mostly turned out to be just more turds in the GOPe punchbowl.
Barbour and his family are the lowest of the low...they make the Clintons look normal.
Not across the nation...
Of course the Dems outspent the Reps 3 to 1.... but its the Republicans who buy elections (rolling eyes)
Unless they have some say in closing their primaries, I don’t see the great news either. These people are evil. I’ll never forget McDaniel’s face on election night. He was struggling to contain emotion after being publicly robbed.
Just when you thought there was nothing left to take away from the Dhimmicraps...
“Let me assure you that that is one solid reason we want TRUMP!!”
WENDLE, we’re on the same page!!! Barbour is a walking, talking a$$hole! I had an employee (in Memphis years ago) who had a brother in Parchment Prison. He talked about “ringing people up” by connecting their privates to a telephone magneto. I’d personally like to ‘ring up” Barbour.
Too bad that creep AG Hood was reelected.
Term limits has got to be implemented for downballot statewide officeholders in MS.
Ms ping
Parchment Prison??????????????
A paper prison?
Is it possible you mean Parchman Farms Prison? Commonly known as Parchman.
Think things through, please.
No one deserves it more.
I’m also wondering what type of Republicans they are.
