LOUISVILLE (AP) - Here is a look at Kentucky's top races in Tuesday's general election, from the contest for governor at the top of the ticket to down-ballot races for statewide offices:
GOVERNOR
Democrat Jack Conway and Republican Matt Bevin square off in the race to become Kentucky's next governor in a pivotal off-year election. The winner succeeds Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear, who could not seek re-election because of term limits. The campaign turned into a referendum on President Barack Obama's signature health care law. Outgoing Gov. Steve Beshear used an executive order to expand the state's Medicaid program to cover an additional 400,000 Kentucky residents and create a health exchange, where more than 100,000 people have purchased discounted health plans with the help of federal subsidies. Bevin, a Louisville businessman, has promised to scale back the expansion and eliminate the exchange, saying taxpayers can't afford it. Conway, the state's two-term attorney general, has called Bevin's plan "callous" and said he would keep both programs. Independent candidate Drew Curtis was also on the ballot for governor.

National Debt when Mitch McConnell was first elected to the U.S. Senate in November 1984: $1.6 Trillion.
As of November 2015: $18.4 Trillion.
(Total increase, almost 12 TIMES that of 31 years ago)
Ugh, come on man. McConnell didn’t want the rat to win and you can’t tell me otherwise, he’s spent his whole political life fighting the frankfort democrat scum.
There is no pressure for him to resign like with Bayner and the motion to vacate the chair (Bayner didn’t quit cause freepers wanted him to) so that’s not a reason.
2 point GOP lead for auditor. Spawn of Beshar leads by a whisker, Grime by 3 points.
It's time for TERM LIMITS!!
We Term Limit the POTUS......we should TERM LIMIT the Congress and Senate.
Rep. John Dingell
Sen. Patrick Leahy
John Conyers
Don Young
Pete Stark
Bill Young....
Orin Hatch...
McCain...etc..etc....
A LOT of ticket splitters, from the looks of it.
IT is a state that still gives voters the ability to vote straight party-line.
KY. Autocorrect.
conway is free to go for round 2 vs rand paul next year. return of aqua buddha?
I wish I could agree with you. He’s as deep in bed with Zero as the Weeping Boner. He’s done absolutely nothing to stop Zero. Not a damn thing. I believe his opposition to the KY Dems controlling state government is a charade, too. This guy learned at the knee of Sen. John Sherman Cooper, and Cooper was a left-winger who was as loyal a Republican as Lyndon Baines Johnson.
Rand needs to get the F out of the POTUS race (or the Senate race).
I didn’t know Bevin had NINE kids. Family ain’t gonna fit in the Gov mansion.
Seems like a typical level of ticket spitting to me.
Fairly and surprisingly easy win for Bevin 52-44 with the rest for an “I”.
2 big 20 point GOP wins and 3 close races against rat incumbents and the Governor’s son. It would be SO good to get the sweep, or least take out Jr. Beshar and have that skank Grimes be sole rat winner.
The filthy rat-controlled House is gonna Bevin’s main problem. GOP needs to win that in 2016.
About 9% left to report...
Andy Beshear (dem) up by 4500 votes.
Any chance for him to lose?
I hope so. Western KY is more conservative.
the ky dem auditor who lost tonight, might take on rand paul next year. so there could still be a long line of senate candidates. a long line of losers.
Good point, dj, but there no likelihood he would go, and Lamar! would become the Senate’s Ryan if McC vacated the seat.
Orrin Grant Hatch has said he will bow out in January 2019; imagine all the damage he can still do, but UT won’t figure it out.
A real shocker and total surprise to me; we’ll see if Bevin means business.
tonight has been overall a good night for conversatives. bevin won. the ky dem machine closer to getting busted. gop holds the va senate. the houston tranny rights referendum fails despite threats from the nfl. the left silver lining would be 3 labor union candidates won open seat on the pa state supreme court. this means redistricting must be ‘fair’. with the political mood tonight, what does that say about vitter’s chances? can political gravity save him like it did for bevin?
I agree. 12 years total for either Rep or Senator... 6 terms in the house, two terms in the Senate.
