We have to start somewhere. This will do until the amendment process gets underway to undo the 16th Amendment to the Constitution of the USA.

You don’t need to run for president to pass an amendment. The presidency is irrelevant to the matter.

Too Right. I'd like to see the NRST adopted instead. The biggest problem with simply rolling back the rates is that it doesn't get rid of the power of the IRS one bit. They will still be demanding that you submit your papers to them in violation of the 4th and 5th amendments.

The original income tax as established in 1913 was quite a bit lower than 10%. If you'd told someone back then that the rate would soon be more than 10%, they'd have laughed at you and called you a paranoid or worse. Here's the original 1040 form and instructions for the 1913.

If less than $20,000 you paid a flat 1%
If more than $20,000, and less than $50,000 you paid an additional 1% on that amount
You paid 2% on the amount between $50,000 and $75,000
You paid 3% on the amount between $75,000 and $100,000
You paid 4% on the amount between $100,000 and $250,000
You paid 5% on the amount between $250,000 and $500,000
You paid 6% on the amount over $500,000

Overall, not that steep a grade, but it put in place the monster that the IRS has become, because it requires you to keep track of your income and and qualifying deductions, and submit documentation of same to the government under penalty of perjury.

All of that is, IMO, evil. What we need is a NSRT. The government already has all of the mechanism in place to collect a national sales tax. Not one single drone has to be hired to implement this, because it's basically just expanding a tax that already exists. Just about every other part of the IRS, however, can be completely dissolved. It is in this way that we can get out from underneath their thumbs without having to resort to hemp neckties.
