I remember this like it was yesterday.......we were traveling back from Nam to Travis AFB in the "Freedom bird".
Dawn was just breaking as we approached the USA west coast.....the pilot banked the aircraft so the beautiful California coast came into view and said over the PA system...."Gentlemen, Welcome back to the United States of America".....most everyone on board sobbed with joy.

Have an original 78rpm disc of this one. Always been a favorite.

Did a quick scan of the CD rack to see what was around - “Rain” is a toughie for the classics - there’s also the storm that wrecks the ship at the end of “Scheherazade”, but that piece is such fertile ground for so many themes it becomes almost too easy to mention it - maybe a sign of a good piece of music....
