ORLANDO, Fla. -- Just months before the holidays and on the heels of a great performance review, no less. A VP invites David Powers and Leo Perrero into his office, both expecting pats on the back. Instead they hear the dreaded words: You are being laid off.
"When a guillotine falls down on you, in that moment you're dead... and I was dead," says former Disney employee David Powers.

Then the feds give them $12,000 for hiring the foreigner.
Insane.
When companies layoff its employees in US, people in India gets pay raise and after office parties.
I worked at MANY places fixing source code written by cheap H1B1 visa guys
Got paid a lot to do it too... Probabyl a lot more than I would have charged them to write it in the first place
And you know what? There is only ONE candidate that is against this, but people would rather live like they are instead of Making America Greater Again!!!
Business is business. Making stupid business decisions like NOT taking advantage of H1B when your competitors do, is a stupid business decision. Change the laws, otherwise, it would be stupid to not work to your advantage while within the law.

Then your candidate needs to step up and BE the bright light on the stage. We aren’t holding him/her back.
You also no doubt have an HONEST resume which shows only the tools and software you’ve actually been able to work with.
Whereas some idiot hiring manager at Disney writes a job description calling for ten years of prior experience with Veeblefitzer 2.0 (which was only released in 2011) and of course, he is obligingly flooded with resumes from H1B’s detailing the required experience.
How do you compete with people who are willing to make their resumes say whatever the hiring manager wants to hear?
And THAT is the moronic mindset which keeps this garbage going.
And let me say to those who spew the conservatism of a couple of the candidates (you know who they are) These same candidates want to do the same with other companies. I don’t care how many Bible verses they quote, they don’t have America first at heart. (hint - guest visas, expanding H-IB visas by 500%). Wake up people! One candidate even went to the border with Glenn Beck to pass out soccer balls and teddy bears. That’s when I got turned off to his campaign and switched to Trump.
I thought Obama was going to give ISIS those jobs so they stop raping and beheading teens?
At Publix Supermarkets (big chain based in Central Florida) they would advertise a position and collect candidates. Then change the job description so that none of the candidates met the requirements. Then go H1B.
Heck they’d hire 4 H1Bs before they’d hire one local to do a job.
True, but only to a point. If using the H1B scam means the difference between staying afloat or not, that's one thing. But if it means the difference between $200 million in profits and $210 million, that's another.
Every business decision should have a moral component to it, even if that moral component must ultimately take a back seat to the survival of the company.
I'm guessing that Disney didn't think about any moral component here.
Randomly audit H1B resumes for accuracy.
Falsehood = immediate deportation.
That would go a long way towards cleaning things up.
Me too.
Uhuh. Salvage can be very lucrative.
The craftsmanship of Peter Principled conservative {uhhhh but progressive} “archeeetects” typically makes it self-evident why buzzwords and bullshyte are a lot better for hiding behind than standing upon.
The companies hiring them have to pay a penalty too.
Right now there is only an upside.
Plus a million dollar fine to the visa sponsor for being an accessory.
Good luck with that in the context of bureaucratic buffoons who've demonstrated an inability to find their own arse with both hands and a SQL statement telling them exactly where to find it.
Me: So, Ameriquest and Argent are really operating from the same code base despite the facade presented in the punitive regulatory agreement?
H1B: Ha ha ha, yeah but nobody knows that.
Me: Uhuh. It's not your country that's getting raped in the process, is it?
