The school resource officer who was caught on camera violently flipping a South Carolina high school student at her desk has been fired, Richland County authorities announced Wednesday.
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said an internal investigation over the Monday incident at Spring Valley High School in Columbia focused on whether Senior Deputy Ben Fields had violated the departments policies. He said at a news conference that the department looked at cellphone videos taken from the classroom and interviews with witnesses, and concluded that the maneuvers he used in the confrontation were not acceptable.

THE KIDS IN THAT SCHOOL WILL HAVE CHAOS NOW
Political correctness run amok.
I approve of treating folks in a way that aligns with their specific cultural norms.
Ridiculous.
I support the cop (and usually I dont).
Now he will be prosecuted and imprisoned for 20 years to life.
A Roman soldier who tried to do that to a Roman Citizen would have been crucified. He got off easy.
I couldn’t possibly disagree more. I am on the polar opposite end of the spectrum from you on this, the cop was totally out of control.
It’s not over yet. Now comes the prosecution.
Message to all SROs, “about your back, we don’t got it.”
Sure will help the department at job fairs. /sarcasm
So...just how would YOU have handled it? Remember, multiple adults had already tried being nice...
He was supposed to give her a free cell phone.
RE: “threw student across room”
That’s a pretty strong dude...
The consequence of this is that now, the dindu nuffins will be permitted to run amok, causing chaos for the other students trapped in those classrooms.
You got it.
The police department covering their butts from PC warriors.
The kids in the school and all over reassured that they can behave however they like and will become heroes for it.

What should the cop have done?
The officer has been thrown under the (school)bus by his upstream command structure. Way to go, sheriff. Way to back up your deputy and work to diffuse the situation. There’s more to this story than is being told, and there is most likely a history within this school and likely with this student, that is not being covered.
She refused lawful requests/commands from her teacher and a “higher up” administrator, then by the resource officer. What did she expect would happen?
Go along peacefully and sort it out afterwards. No harm, no foul, no violence.
The student needed to be restrained, but not intimidated. He would have more sympathy if he was forced to react to her intimidation.
I have to think the PDs are trained on how to handle these situations so “authorities don’t look bad”.
This guy would still have a job, were it not for the video.
PDs need to think that they are being filmed, continuously.
What do you call Blue Rage when it happens in the home? Chances are his family is also intimidated. The sheriff should send social service to that cop’s home.
