As polls show Ben Carson catching - and even surpassing - Donald Trump, the brash businessman's attacks against his closest challenger have intensified. His remarks could backfire for being redundant, vague and hypocritical.
While Trump has been known for direct and personal verbal lobs against his opponents in the campaign, this is the first time he has found himself faced with another outsider who has risen above him in some recent key polls. And his strategy so far has yet to have any impact on Carson as the former pediatric neurosurgeon has refused to take the bait.
On MSNBC's Morning Joe Tuesday, Trump was quick to question Carson's appeal, insisting that under scrutiny, it won't continue. A "a lot of things will come out" about Carson's record, Trump said.
Trump challenged Carson's strict anti-abortion position, which Trump said wasn't always the same.
"Ben was pro-abortion not so long ago as everybody has told me," Trump said.
Trump was most likely referring to Carson's tenure as a pediatric neurosurgeon when he referred pregnant patients with genetic abnormalities to doctors who also perform abortions - a decision Carson defends pointing to the importance of "qualified medical supervision."
But the problem with Trump's statement is that his own record is not very consistent. In an interview on NBC's "Meet the Press" in 1999, Trump said that while he "hates" the idea of abortion he is "very pro-choice."

They believe that if you worship on Sunday, you are the mark of the beast, what does that tell you?
So you came into this thing with a bias, from a book that looked for every possible thing to smear them with.
To wrongly believe the preincarnate Christ appeared as such and such a figure (and the question about the preincarnate Christ appearing as “the angel of the Lord” of the Old Testament is a frequent one in evangelical circles) is not the same as calling Christ a creature. One can be “wrong” without “blaspheming.” They are saying Michael was a being higher than he probably was, not that Christ was lower.
Agenda driven smear people really tick me off.
I take your statement as far as I can throw it. Bring forth an actual citation from actual doctrine.
Appearing on Glenn Becks radio show this past week, Dr. Benjamin Carson took a vastly different stance from most conservatives on the issue of gun control, claiming you shouldnt be able to own semi-automatic weapons in large cities.
This was from Medialite, March 3. I've forgotten how to post a working link.
What you want to believe is your business. Ellen G. White, is a false prophetess whose writings are given the same weight as scripture in the SDA church.
Apart from any of that and very pertinent to the Presidential race, I don not believe that a Pacifist can be an effective Commander in Chief.
Again, bring forth the actual doctrine. I smell great tendentiousness.
Most attacks on Trump have back-fired because people essentially like Trump, despite his rough edges.
Attacks on Carson may have the same result for the same reason.
If you are going to attack either one, it has to be on the issues. Carson has a lot of weaknesses ripe for the attack; attacking his religion will only backfire especially coming from Trump or a Trump supporter.
Pacifist, fine. Let him be asked about his philosophy on national defense then. If it is not viable, don’t go for him.
But what kind of “joy” delights in religious smears?
Use any search engine you like. It is not difficult to find out what SDA’s believe. They have a lot of beliefs that are similar to Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons.
If Trump is smart (as a politician) he will ignore this ridiculous Carson surge, and kill him with kindness in the next debates.
2 Colossians 2:14
Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
That includes the law, traditions, or any rules that man came up with.
I had family-in-law members who were 7th Day Adventists. The husband was very fine and took us, when husband was bed ridden, in his van several times to the hospital for chemo and he waited all those hours every time to bring us back home. They were regular people with their own religion just as we were Catholics.
It isn’t “against us” any more in the sense that it cannot send us to hell now that we have been saved. We now have a loving perfecting Teacher instead of a judge.
How do you keep “Thou shalt not steal” in any sort of operation, if this is your view? Just as an example.
re: “He is a member of one of the four major Cults in the world.”
Prior to 1946, it could be argued that Seventh Day Adventists were a cult. But, they changed their teaching on the Trinity years ago(a process which began around 1946 and completed by 1980). Here is the website address that lists their beliefs. Their view of the Infallibility of the Bible, the Trinity, and Jesus as God the Son, is as follows:
“The Holy Scriptures: The Holy Scriptures, Old and New Testaments, are the written Word of God, given by divine inspiration. The inspired authors spoke and wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. In this Word, God has committed to humanity the knowledge necessary for salvation. The Holy Scriptures are the supreme, authoritative, and the infallible revelation of His will. They are the standard of character, the test of experience, the definitive revealer of doctrines, and the trustworthy record of Gods acts in history.
The Trinity: There is one God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, a unity of three co-eternal Persons. God is immortal, all-powerful, all-knowing, above all, and ever present. He is infinite and beyond human comprehension, yet known through His self-revelation. God, who is love, is forever worthy of worship, adoration, and service by the whole creation.
“God the Son: God the eternal Son became incarnate in Jesus Christ. Through Him all things were created, the character of God is revealed, the salvation of humanity is accomplished, and the world is judged. Forever truly God, He became also truly human, Jesus the Christ. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived and experienced temptation as a human being, but perfectly exemplified the righteousness and love of God. By His miracles He manifested Gods power and was attested as Gods promised Messiah. He suffered and died voluntarily on the cross for our sins and in our place, was raised from the dead, and ascended to heaven to minister in the heavenly sanctuary in our behalf. He will come again in glory for the final deliverance of His people and the restoration of all things.”
Yes, they have some strange teaching on following Old Testament dietary laws, etc., but otherwise, they are orthodox in their basic theology of God the Father, Jesus the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
People who have studied cults in depth consider, Christian Science, Mormonism, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Seventh Day Adventism to be the four major cults in the world today.
That is just a fact.
There are many reasons not to vote for Carson, but I find the deception that Evangelical Christians are under concerning his faith dangerous.
Rinse, wash, repeat.
...as the polls hyped him up...
I ain’t buying. I’ve known good people of each religion.
Even on this site, some call my own religion, Catholicism, a cult.
I know a fair amount about other religions, including the SDA. For gosh sake, my son was born in an SDA hospital. I used to listen to an SDA radio station when I was a teenager. They have some different beliefs from mainstream Christianity, but not what you ascribe to them. As with Walker earlier this year, you are a liar, a Democrat plant, a liberal troll.
“People who have studied cults in depth”
From your smear book?
Nikki Haley "has been on the leading edge of the GOP establishment's attack against Donald Trump."
