Donald Trump May Need New Playbook Against Surging Ben Carson
NBC News ^ | 10/27/15 | Lee Ann Caldwell

Posted on 10/27/2015 4:03:32 PM PDT by randita

As polls show Ben Carson catching - and even surpassing - Donald Trump, the brash businessman's attacks against his closest challenger have intensified. His remarks could backfire for being redundant, vague and hypocritical.

While Trump has been known for direct and personal verbal lobs against his opponents in the campaign, this is the first time he has found himself faced with another outsider who has risen above him in some recent key polls. And his strategy so far has yet to have any impact on Carson as the former pediatric neurosurgeon has refused to take the bait.

On MSNBC's Morning Joe Tuesday, Trump was quick to question Carson's appeal, insisting that under scrutiny, it won't continue. A "a lot of things will come out" about Carson's record, Trump said.

Trump challenged Carson's strict anti-abortion position, which Trump said wasn't always the same.

"Ben was pro-abortion not so long ago as everybody has told me," Trump said.

Trump was most likely referring to Carson's tenure as a pediatric neurosurgeon when he referred pregnant patients with genetic abnormalities to doctors who also perform abortions - a decision Carson defends pointing to the importance of "qualified medical supervision."

But the problem with Trump's statement is that his own record is not very consistent. In an interview on NBC's "Meet the Press" in 1999, Trump said that while he "hates" the idea of abortion he is "very pro-choice."

It’s disgusting how many people chuck out the bath water so hastily that the baby goes out on the street.

Some SDA churches do worship on Sundays and Carson has said that he spends as much time in other churches as SDA so I don’t get the impression he adheres to the strangest of the doctrines.

Many nice people are deceived. Had you known that they were taught in their church that the Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon and that Sunday Worship is the Mark of the Beast, you might have felt a bit uncomfortable.

"Here we find the mark of the beast. The very act of changing the Sabbath into Sunday, on the part of the Catholic church, without any authority from the Bible." (Ellen G. White, The Mark of the Beast, page 23)

One could debate endlessly what the mark of the beast is, but they are obviously taking it as meaning the sign of doing something wrong. This is a theological debate.

You’ll see talk like that from a lot of evangelicals. It will turn out often that these personages are not being taken as the apocalyptic monsters that other denominations take them as. Mixing the two concepts is certain to ignite much ire.

A couple of days ago I had a Freeper who is SDA try for several hours to convince me that Jesus and the Archangel Michael are the same.

I saw a video today of Ben Carson saying that Conservatives would move to have Sunday declared the official Day of Worship. SDA’s believe that Sunday Worship is the Mark of the Beast.

In this case, I think we agree. But this poster told all sorts of lies about Scott Waker, too. It’s as if he’s operating out of a democrat playbook.

I have met many SDAs, and they didn’t consider my Church to be the Whore of Babylon. Wisconsin Synod Lutherans still have a formal teaching that the pope is the anti-Christ. LCMS still have a teaching that the office of the papacy is the anti-Christ. We manage to all get along nicely without you dammocrap provocateurs.

Here is an odd thing. The media seems obsessed with taking out Trump, yet he provides them with a golden goose. Can one imagine the complete and utter lack of interest in the Presidential primary if it was make up of nothing but the likes of people like Bush, Jindal, or Graham? The media couldn’t sell ad space for pennies.

If they succeed in taking him out, then what will they do? Run Hillary screeches for the next 12 months?

“Dr. Carson is a stand-in for people who aren’t comfortable with Trump”
“Carson is essentially the “I want an outsider, but not Trump” candidate. It could just be a bump in the road for Trump, but it also may be that he isn’t wearing well and some of his antics are alienating people.”

I think that is exactly correct. People see/hear Trump’s loud mouth raving and tacky personal attacks, and they head for calm Carson. Carson is soothing and Trump is bombastic and upsetting to them, so they would rather be calm with Carson. That being the case, the more outrageous Trump rails, the more voters go to Carson. If this trend happens, then it is true, Trump is too much for people and they will take the learned, calm, Carson.

Never voted for a Democrat in my life, but I did have a brother who got involved in a cult. Thank God he got out before he died.

Trump had other rich people in that quote, so the populace would be run by only super rich people. We would have a King and Princes, Lords, and Earls, running the country for the peasants. Wait, didn’t some of our ancestors have to live like that?

You are absolutely right. Wouldn't want to ruffle any feathers, oh no.

In fact, I hope you are so right that Trump even presses his bombassedness to the hilt.

Then turns it sideways, and keeps on pressing.

Viva Carson! No?
