The woman who crashed into a crowd at Oklahoma State University's homecoming parade, killing four people and injuring dozens more, was held on $1 million bond Monday as her father acknowledged that "she might have underlying [mental health] problems."

It sure looks like she has WITHDRAWN.
We know why the guy in Texas crashed into a crowd. He was eluding police.
We do not know why, yet, this girl crashed into a crowd.
Would you agree ?
We all go through driving school right? Blowing a red light, driving around a barricade and plowing through a crowd of people is probably a no no on getting a license. There are social norms still, right? Or do we drive like they do in China or Mexico?
Yeah, possibly.
It’s difficult to know exactly what’s in another person’s mind though.
People generally only show others what they want others to see.
This, I would say, is also not a typical act of females. I would expect a male to do something like this before I would expect a female to.
What perplexes me is that the females of FR aren't all over this.
Maybe I'm just way off base.
I would venture to say... impossible.
My sister who lives in Tulsa is my only source for that phrase.
Explain , then, why a mother of three, who has been loving and raising those children, drives into a lake and drowns them all.
How does prior 'conditioning' such as you describe, or 'social norms' apply then ?
I am sorry for the experiences you speak of — with your friends. That is very sad.
Count me as a cynic on this topic. Which came first, the mental illness or the substance abuse. I say the later. Counselors frequently say the former. But then they are very inclined to look for anything and anyone to blame except the person deserving blame — the person sitting in their office.
I have many examples. I will share the latest. My niece. She has been told she was a one who tried to “self medicate.” I disagree. She made bad choices. Her behavior reflected it. Then she was looking for a excuse.
That may seem harsh but I actually think it is kinder than providing an excuse. Better to accept responsibility. It is the only real way to improve.
You are right. I feel sorry for all involved, too. How devastating.
Yes. Your description of your experience matches all other real diabetics I have known. This description matches drug abusers I have known.
I have to tread lightly here. :)
I think the 2 year-old being killed seals up much of it for women. The mothering/protection kicks in and overrides everything else.
I'm not sure how much women discuss this sort of familial dysfunction. I would guess most women have never spoken to someone who dealt with this. It's not exactly something easy to bring up in a conversation. Sure, there are celebrities out there, but so many appear to be frauds and the pain is always encapsulated in convenient snippets between someone trying to sell soap. The reality of it is a lot messier.
She told me she heard that the girl was dismissed from work an hour after she arrived because they said she seemed drugged.
You know that game where a group of people sit around a table and pass around a whispered secret ? BY the time it gets to the end.....
Anyway, here is the only reference I can find (from DAILY MAIL)
"Chambers was seen leaving work in tears half an hour before the deadly crash, according to witnesses, and did not appear drunk."
That’s what I said, the guy in Texas was convicted of drunk driving and evading police/pursuit, then plowing a crowd. A bit different than what appears to have occurred in this Oklahoma case. Ya see that suspect in TX had committed crimes before ever plowing the crowd. In a criminal case, that counts and makes a big difference.
I agree with you, but that proves nothing because I’m not a woman.
Multiple personality disorder?
Yeah, I even feel sorry for her dad. I wouldn’t want to be in his shoes at all.
I’m not sure what to feel about her though, so I am reserving judgment.
Do you have any training or credentials, or just opinions?
Do you believe me that their is a field in phycology specializing in “dual diagnosis?” There is.
Do you think if your tooth is ill, it is a bad decision, or evil?
I believed what you stated, about 30 years ago when told my younger sister had mental illness, depression.
I scoffed at it. Of course I was completely ignorant and uninformed. I didn’t grasp that the brain, like other organs, could have physical and chemical problems.
Fortunately I learned over the years, and have accepted 21st century science n the field of medicine.
I am also nearly 22 years sober. My sister never drank alcohol or took any drugs. Just mental illness, and in her case she didn’t self medicate, which is fortunate.
Many times these mentally ill people feel so awful, they want to kill themselves, but instead shut down the anguish with drugs and/or alcohol.
If you are still angry with your mother, try to understand that she may have been doing the best that she could.
I am not angry with my mother. I have actually never had a problem with that. Nice try. I think the mental health industry to largely a very corrupt industry. Sometimes they get lucky and help someone. Mostly they are just babysitters keeping people out of trouble until the next time around. Or drug distributors trying to manage behavior with drugs.
It is not that I do not believe mental health problems exist. It is just that I think over 50% of them are not mental health problems but behavioral problems that could be better solved with a heavy dose of Christianity rather than hours and hours of examining why their childhoods or other such things are to blame.
If that is your field of work then we might as well agree to disagree. I know what I have seen and I have seen a lot — not just from my mother, either.
I don’t feel sorry for her. Maybe I will later.
