Of course there is no reason to build a wall where the terrain makes the area impassable by natural topography. However, a wall is a very good solution in most areas. The wall would also be equipped with state of the art technology.

LOL. You don't have check points at the border without fences and other physical barriers that funnel the traffic to the checkpoints. Most of the illegals are not using the highways to get in. And highway patrolmen are not tasked with immigration enforcement. It is a federal responsibility.
I prefer a series of walls to funnel them and have that supplemented with armed patrols. The sort of patrols who are allowed to use the weapons when necessary and not the sort that maintains water coolers and popcorn machines for 'our guests"...
