In 2016, there are 14 Republican presidential candidates for whom Ronald Reagan is both the benchmark for conservative values and the lodestar of conservative ideas. Theres also one who wrote, in the second to last year of Reagans presidency, that he had been so smooth, so effective a performer that only now, seven years later, are people beginning to question whether theres anything beneath that smile.
The gadfly was Donald Trump, writing in his book The Art of the Deal. But it wasnt just a glancing blow; to promote the book, Trump launched a political campaign that tore into Reagans record, including his willingness to stand up to the Soviet Union. Advised by the notorious Roger Stone, a Nixon-era GOP trickster, in 1987 Trump purchased full-page ads in Trump took out full-page ads in The New York Times, Boston Globe and Washington Post blasting Reagan and his team.

...Democrats have opened our borders to all manner of horrific Third World violence, crime, and disease. The GOP has supported and endorsed this vile activity every single step of the way. Trump has tapped into the fury of the American people over the unrelenting anti-American NWO push of our paid employees in government. Trump could win this on this one issue alone. Americans are tired of being betrayed by their government on both sides of the aisle....
Nothing will come between me and Trump.
..what if there are flaws in the that vision that will not produce the greatness you want? Guess that does’t matter.
Interesting, but irrelevant, a false choice, and misses the point. As a private citizen, he advocated for almost all of the policies and politicians who have screwed us. Therefore, he does not get a pass as a "private citizen." And is Warren Rudman on the ballot this go round? Didn't think so.
It does matter. However, Trump has more damn experience running businesses then the others combined.
Looks like you don’t like Trump.
There is NOTHING more conservative than stopping a permanent democrat/marxist voting majority and doing whats best for the people and the country. By virtue of Mr.Trumps position on illegal immigration he Trumps all others conservatism.
In my humble opinion, Edmund is very emotional over Trump for a man. He experiences nausea. Of course, C. Edmund Wright could be a pseudonym.
LMAO. Good one.
There is only one issue, immigration.
I could care less if Donald punched Reagan in the face, it just doesn’t matter. He says he will get a wall built and deport the scum killing our country. I believe he will do it! Trump loves America, he has demonstrated that many times!
I’m not emotional over Trump at all...I’m right where I’ve been on Trump since April....and oh, I mean April of 2011 - so now doubt I was four years ahead of you on Trump....as I praised him for a lot of things in April 2011 in a published column...and warned people about him too. No doubt I was 16 years ahead of you on McCain, 10 years ahead of you on Rove, and so on.
My emotion is the horror at how you and others have simply taken leave of your senses...not over Trump himself. As I said, I could vote for Trump...but I could never ever stoop to your level of reasoning over Trump, or any other topic on the planet. I haven’t argued like that since I was 4.
True, but you are not grown enough to also admit A: he inherited more business than the others combined and B: had he simply taken his inheritance and put it into index stock funds he'd be 3-4X richer than he is today and C: he has more bankruptcy experience than the others combined and D: he has more Clinton butt kissing than the others combined and E: he has more pro universal government healthcare than the others combined.......and on and on I could go, but you're not interested in the truth.
You are a real smart alec as I wrote what he inherited on FR. It was about 200 million. For a man who is allegedly in real estate, you sound very envious of Trump.
Methinks you protest to much, kind Sir.
Another criticism of Dear Leader Trump, eh?
Well, there you go again -- acting just like a non-intellectual blubbering sycophantic fantasy projector!
And it was indeed a magnificent phrase. My congrats and respects!
I don’t think Trump “hated” Ronald Reagan. He and his dad were staunch supporters and he allowed RR to use his phones and offices for his campaign. He even flew him to Albany in his private jet so that he could get on the ballot in NY on time. Here’s a quote from “The Art of The Deal,” he never said anything bad about RR - just what others said:

There, fixed it for you.
And is Warren Rudman on the ballot this go round?
No, he is not. But it's funny how Politico thinks that opposing Reagan is suddenly the gospel now. Rudman was the go-to guy for the leftist media to trash Reagan's agenda, he being the "sensible" Republican, and you didn't hear a peep from the media then.
That's the first even remotely accurate accusation you've made.....guilty as charged.
Shoot the messenger. Then you can ignore the bad news.
