"She is not an alcoholic that I’m aware of,” he said.

You don't have to be an alcoholic to have a drunk-driving incident.

He confirmed that his daughter lives in Stillwater with her boyfriend.

So, in other words, he really has no idea what happened, whether she was drinking or whatever.

Some things do not change, even in the A.I era of today.
If you destroy lives, you still bring shame onto your family. Unfortunately, this dad may have to wait a while before he finds much sympathy.

There’s always the Amtrak Handbook of Excuses:

The attorney for Brandon Bostian, the engineer for Amtrak Train 188, told ABC’s “Nightline” his client has no memory of the deadly crash that killed at least seven people, CBS News’ Kris Van Cleave reports.

“He remembers driving the train, he remembers going to that area generally, has absolutely no recollection of the incident or anything unusual,” Bostian’s attorney Robert Goggin said.

Mr. Chambers sounds like a typical father who’s been shocked by the horrible behavior of his child. It’s an unenviable place.

I’m not familiar with the details but it is possible for a young person who is inexperienced with alcohol to have a very bad drunken episode. She drinks a little, inhibitions relax, she drinks a little more, and pretty soon she’s howling, stupid drunk. Best case scenario is a lampshade on her head. Worst case is mayhem.

Any of us who have kids; after they reach a certain age we
cannot predict what their every action is or will be.
You give it your best shot and hope they’re going to
have listened to you and maybe even follow your example
if you’ve set a fairly decent one. - Raising kids is
a very serious matter; and the way parents are divorcing
and remarrying these days, children rightly have to feel
like just an afterthought. - We’re on our 51st year of
marriage, for better or worse. When you start getting
old, you better have yourself a faithful, loyal mate
to stick with you. It’s bad to get old, get seriously
ill, and be abandoned by the “young” woman or man you
jettisoned your original mate for. - Believe me; that
“hot” number you have your eye on is not worth the pain
you cause your mate and kids in order to *sample* some
of “that” variety.

Alcoholics wake up in the mornings and start drinking. If you are out before the store opens, there will be a line.

America definitely needs some "comprehensive" alcohol reform. Alcohol needs to be banned. When are the nation's mayors going to get off of their lazy asses and do something about this? People who use alcohol should be shot. (Thank you Salon. Good idea.)

Poor Dad must be either pretty desperate for attention, or really stupid to talk to the media before the authorities have released a report. there was a time when I advised a council member in a town where the mooselimbs were attempting to open an islamik cemetery to not talk to any media about it.
