I need to mail each one of the these billionaires a copy of “A Canticle for Leiboweitz.”
The minute these fools stick their heads above ground, armies of insane and totally pissed off survivors will kill them.
It won’t matter to the survivors if the former PowersTB promise food and safety because everyone will after those who caused the catastrophe. When there is nothing left to lose...
Kinda like a World War Z situation?
In the book “World War Z”, there’s a scene early on. The celebrities are laughing at the kids with blades on hockey sticks trying to take out the zombies and dying, dragged down. They watch in comfort as average people taking down zombies with makeshift weapons fails. And reporters are broadcasting the rich laughing at the news reports.
And then you read about the rich people’s reaction to hordes. The police have withdrawn, the average people with weapons are falling, and so they retreat to the only safe haven they know - the private compounds that the reporters have shown to be well stocked, well protected and still safe.
The private security can take down a dozen shambling zombies but can’t handle several hundred people with wire cutters, knives and families they are trying to stay safe. So the private security can’t stop all the other people trying to escape the zombies ... and the shelters fall to people seeking safety, and the zombies follow.
The lesson I learned - if you want to keep your compound and preps safe, OP SEC.
Which means you don’t tell the world about it, and you certainly don’t have celebrities around bragging about how safe they are while you’re dying.
This article counts as a violation of that rule.
Whether those who hope to use these places in case of an emergency remember that rule is to be determined.
Will their dumb kids tweet “I’m evacuating to XYZ!” and have a GPS location tagged to the location?
Will celebrities evacuating there get followed by reporters and then the hordes?
Or will they get to safety and get slaughtered by staff who would willingly come up to and until told “nope, your wife and kids can’t come, because they don’t support me?”
That’s the greatest post-apocalyptic novel ever written, IMO.
Glad you like it too.
