BEN CARSON SKETCHES PLAN FOR DEALING WITH ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS (Citizenship for guest workers)
Powerline ^ | 9/13/15 | PAUL MIRENGOFF

Posted on 10/24/2015 8:41:40 AM PDT by jimbo123

During an appearance of Face the Nation, Dr. Ben Carson took a stab today at outlining how he would deal with the issue of illegal immigration. After criticizing Donald Trump’s concept of deporting every illegal immigrant (and then readmitting “the good ones”), Carson said this:

[L]et’s say we get [the borders] sealed, because certainly in a Carson administration that would be done within the first year. You also turn off the spigot that dispenses the goodies, so that people don’t have any incentive to come here.

Then those who are here, we have to recognize that we can’t just round them up, but we can give them an opportunity to register. I would give them a six-month period.

If they register, and if they have a pristine record, they haven’t been causing problems, I would give them an opportunity to become guest workers — not citizens, not voting people, not people who get goodies. I think that would be a fair way to do it.

In terms of them becoming citizens later on down the road if they’ve done things the right way, we the American people will decide what the criteria for that ought to be.

Most of the commentary I’ve seen about Carson’s statement has focused on the guest worker idea. I’ll get to it in a moment.

My biggest concern, though, is with Carson’s proposal eventually to establish criteria for illegal immigrants becoming “citizens. . .down the road if they’ve done things the right way.” By definition, those who are here illegally have not “done things the right way.” They should be barred from becoming U.S. citizens.

We are being colonized by the Third World. By 2019 half of the children 18 and under will be minorities. By 2043 half of the country will be minorities. Immigration, legal and illegal, drives 80% of our population growth.

All in all, minorities, now 37 percent of the U.S. population, are projected to comprise 57 percent of the population in 2060. (Minorities consist of all but the single-race, non-Hispanic white population.) The total minority population would more than double, from 116.2 million to 241.3 million over the period.

Dry up cash and benefits to the illegals and they will leave on their own.

We could have 2/3 of them gone in a month, with proper organization.

Agree, but there is no political will to do so. The pro-amnesty crowd compares rounding them up to the Holocaust. If we make conditions as unwelcoming as possible, most will go home on their own accord. Shut off the job magnet, increase enforcement of our existing laws, secure the border, and have a system to track and deport visa overstays, and most will go home. We already deport hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens a year now. Deportation is and should be a viable tool.

It is also worth remembering that 60% of all green cards handed out each year are from a change in status. The illegal alien population will dry up if we do the right things. It is not a static population.

“The pro-amnesty crowd compares rounding them up to the Holocaust.”

Yes, I know they do.

My question again is, so what?

We’ll be deporting the Mexicans LONG before whites are a minority.

The vast majority of Americans are ill-informed about immigration. They have also been brainwashed by our education system. The emotional reaction to families being rounded up and forced to leave on a mass scale will make it difficult for the politicians to take such actions. Far better to use attrition thru enforcement. The lawbreakers did not get here overnight and will not leave overnight. Why the sense of urgency?

As a practical matter, it will take a huge bureaucracy to process a mass deportation effort. You can bet the Left and the Chamber of Commerce will be providing legal assistance to fight these deportations.

Nope. They’re taking jobs my family and friends are looking for. And depressing our wages. And we don’t qualify for assistance.

No Mr. Carson. Illegals rounded up and gone. Guest workers program scrapped at least temporarily and everyone sent home. Borders closed to everyone temporarily.

He literally registered Republican last October. He has zero experience with ANYTHING that would help our economy. Nothing. He has the support of Farrakhan and the BLM movement. He’s not strong on 2A. He’s not strong on security. He’s not strong on the border.

Can you really imagine this man going head-to-head with Putin? Dealing well with the Middle East? Making decent trade deals with China?

He’d be worse than Carter on foreign policy!

What, in the world, do you support about this man?

He prays?

So does REVEREND Jesse Jackson. So do the televangelists. So do all of the Democrats who get busted screwing a coked out hooker.

And this is the same man who still defends his work on aborted fetuses. Who was a member of a board that gave thousands to Planned Parenthood. Who is fine with denying elders medical care.

Yeah. REAL G-dly...

What the hell does *anyone* see in this candidate?

Highly doubtful. And it is not only Mexicans. Indians and Chinese are making up an increasing portion of the illegal alien population. In 1970 non-Hispanic whites made up about 90% of the population. Thanks to immigration, legal and illegal, non-Hispanic whites will be 50% of the population by 2043.

We have just had the two largest decades of legal immigration in our history. In 1970 one in 21 was foreign born in this country; today, it is less than one in 8, the highest in 104 years; and within a decade, it will be one 7, the highest in our history. Unless we reduce legal immigration drastically, we are finished. In fact, it may already be too late.

As a share of the population, immigrants (legal and illegal) comprised 13.3 percent or about one out of eight U.S. residents in 2014, the highest percentage in 104 years. As recently as 1980, just 6.2 percent of the country was comprised of immigrants.

Then those who are here, we have to recognize that we can’t just round them up..

And why not? People are arrested every day for crimes.

BEN CARSON - ON IMMIGRATION
Carson in his books has staked out a hard line on immigration. Carson has called for both the border to be secured and strict interior enforcement measures.

Carson has opposed illegal immigration and called for a system to ensure only legal immigrants are hired.

However, in more recent rhetoric Carson has championed a national guest-worker program as a way for immigrants to be granted citizenship and favored a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants.

In the late summer of 2015, Carson came out against rigorous enforcement of current deportation laws.

Carson has flip flopped on the proposed national guest-worker program; first, Carson said that illegals would have to return to their home country, but in July of 2015 Carson amended his proposal to allow for illegals to remain in country as guest workers as long as they pay taxes.

This proposal is very similar to the failed Gang of 8 amnesty bill and until the border is secured incentivizes illegal immigration.

Additionally Carson directly slammed calls for enforcing deportation laws. Carson like all the other GOP candidates wants the border secure, but Carson’s support for creation of a new guest-worker program comprised of illegal immigrants is amnesty but by another name.

I have been working on this issue for nine years as a member of a grassroots organization that lobbies on the Hill. We had a booth at CPAC for four years. We have contracted for polls to gauge American opinion on the issue. You would be amazed how little the average person knows about immigration. Even the so-called activists at CPAC were uninformed.

I also have been politically active with the GOP in NoVA. I can tell you that the GOPe supports amnesty and outreach. And they do not want to touch legal immigration.

I had almost an hour long briefing one on one with Eric Cantor several years ago. I provided him with all the data replete with charts. He didn't get it. Nor did George Allen who I also briefed. I did work with Dave Brat who did get it and won. We used over 40,000 robo calls on immigration to help him defeat Cantor in the primary.

Immigration can be a winning issue for Reps if they know how to use it. Jeff Sessions provided the template, which Trump is using. I support Trump for that reason, but I am getting a little nervous as Trump is not adhering to his position paper on immigration, the best ever written for a Presidential candidate.

I follow Trump very closely. He is starting to back away from his position that the illegals must go. He said in Miami that he was a little reluctant to bring up the the immigration issue there given the makeup of the crowd. He said he would not have the same trepidation in Jacksonville. Immigration has made Trump the leading contender and it will serve him well against Carson and Cruz and Rubio and Bush. He just shouldn't go wobbly when La Raza and other groups start applying the pressure in the form of demonstrations. Trump wants to be loved. If he starts backing away from his immigration positions, his popularity will decline.

Thru our polling as well as personal experience in our involvement in the DC mayoral elections, we have found the deportation of illegal aliens and reduced legal immigration to have great resonance. This issue could be even more powerful in the General Election. American jobs for American workers could win it for Trump. Hillary has gone all in for amnesty and increased immigration at a time when we have the lowest labor participation rates in 38 years.

The big cloud on the scene is Paul Ryan. He could provide the last nail in the coffin in this country. He is terrible on immigration and a tool of the corporate elites who own both parties.

Carson is the stealth amnesty candidate.

The Cheap Labor Express has many candidates in this race.

Guest workers? Many are not working and standing outside of Home Depot is not a job.

Making an uniform rule of naturalization implies the power to regulate the movement and activities of aliens present here illegally.

That includes powers of arrest against people here illegally. It does not include a power to issue and regulate work permits to citizens. It's not there.

There is absolutely a simple and constitutional means to rid the country of illegals: Call up the national militia and issue a letter of marque for their arrest and detainment, offering a substantial bounty for a successful deportation and a severe penalty for false arrest and detainment of a citizen. THAT is a plan that is both Constitutional and sufficient to get on-out-of-ten-to-fifteen US residents out of the country.

“That’s a “goodie” that they don’t have now and Carson wants to create. Why?”

It makes them legal, ahead of the millions wanting to come here that have been honest and respect our laws.

Ergo - Carson’s plan is amnesty.

They don’t have to get citizenship to be amnestied - the definition is to forgive a crime. If they are allowed to stay, they have been forgiven of violating our laws. And have been granted amnesty. Something those waiting in line, paying fees, filling out mountains of paperwork- do not get. And the multitude of babies they have while here will be given citizenship and all the free handouts they can grab. Then, of course, they will be given citizenship.

Just amnesty by another name.

“I agree. Ben Carson’s problem (and it IS A PROBLEM) is that he is too nice to properly handle lawbreakers such as those here illegally. The need to be deported...PERIOD!”

An absolutely terrible debater, not well versed on anything except operating on people, he would get destroyed by Hillary Clinton in a debate. Herman Cain was a much better candidate than Carson, who puts you to sleep talking. If he wins the Iowa Caucus it’ll be his first and only win. End of story.
