Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson defended his immigration plan during Wednesday night's Republican debate, but his explanation only got him into further trouble with some voters. Carson supports giving guest-worker status to millions of undocumented immigrants without criminal records.
"After we seal the borders, after we turn off the spigot that dispenses all the goodies...people who had a pristine record we should consider allowing them to become guest workers primarily in the agricultural sphere," Carson said. "If they don't do it within that time period then they become illegal and as illegals they will be treated as such," he said.
Carson said his plan is not amnesty because farmers cannot find American workers, which prompted criticism from some social media users who perceived the remark as suggesting immigrants can only do farm work.

Sorry Ben. I like you on various issues but you have no idea what you’re talking about here.
The militia was exactly what was set up to throw the illegals out. The powers andthe wussies are afraid of calling up a militia. They want a full and unconditional draft to government or die.
Absolutely no reason for farmers not to have to craft appealing jobs at appealing wages like every other sector of our economy.
More automation undoubtedly is in order, but also simply a free market that rewards those farmers who match their jobs to the low-skill labor demand.
We have plenty of unskilled (by choice) laborers her already who need to make their own money instead of taking mine. Wait, is asking gibsmedats to harvest fields racist?
Sorry Ben. I like you on various issues but you have no idea what youre talking about here.

Yeah, I agree with you, which makes me wonder about the high polling numbers that Carson is getting. Do we have Dems and so called “moderates” raising Carson numbers to counter Trump, or do we have too many low information Conservatives voters out there? I think Carson would make a wonderful Surgeon General but I am not in agreement with his views on immigration or foreign policy.
No! Let ‘undocumented immigrants’ stay in their own countries!
This is exactly it, and something I pointed out in an article a few years ago: support for illegal immigration is really just another form of crony capitalism.
Hell no. Go sell that crap to the RNC and DNC. It’s useless for the actual country.
I do not have a problem with guest workers as long as they have to go back to their home countries to apply, have to return when the visa expires or face drastic penalties, and cannot become residents and citizens.
Yep.
When it comes to reality of managing an entire country the size of the US, Sleepy has no clue on this issue and too many others to list. Perhaps he should try running something smaller - like a hot dog stand for starters.
Celebrity Apprentice.
Just this week I found out that Carson’s faith does not approve of military service in anything but non combatant roles. Pacifism is completely incompatible with being an effective Commander in Chief.
Carson attended a dinner in honor of Al Sharpton where he said that he and Al Sharpton had the same goals.
He also wants Louis Farrakhan to have a leadership role on public policy in Chicago.
I already knew about his view that deporting illegals was not moral.
I have to wonder when those supporting this man are going to actually look at his policies and ask themselves why?
“Carson said his plan is not amnesty because farmers cannot find American workers, which prompted criticism from some social media users who perceived the remark as suggesting immigrants can only do farm work.”
Unfortunately, in almost any “industry you can name,” illegal workers have infested it. I worked in the Silicon Valley for 30 years. The only difference between the fields of the Central Valley and the “clean rooms” in the SV is the ethnicity of those working there. The real truth is that the “industry leaders” in all areas of endeavor are imbued with the idea that they have to have cheap labor “in order to compete.” The truth of the matter is that they just want to pay as little as they have to for workers, and it doesn’t matter a whit to them what happens to our country as a consequence. Take Carson off the list, he’s just another “organ grinders monkey” for the CoC.
Herman Cain. There’s no affirmative action like GOP affirmative action.
Automation is exploding in the fruit packing industry as well as out on the farms. People in agriculture aren't stupid. They are automating to reduce the amount of labor and the cost of labor and putting the investment into technology. If one looks at the labor needs of agriculture, then one will notice that labor needs are being reduced at an ever increasing rate.
I totally agree.
Bull. Get rid of welfare, EBT cards and let "the poor" do some farm work.
And/or, pay them more. I thought conservatives understood supply and demand.
