Donald Trump to rivals: Give up your super PACs
businessinsider.com ^ | Colin Campbell

Posted on 10/23/2015 12:07:22 PM PDT by RoosterRedux

Real-estate mogul Donald Trump released a statement on Friday calling on every presidential candidate to drop their so-called super PACs.

"I have disavowed all Super PAC's, requested the return of all donations made to said PAC's, and I am calling on all Presidential candidates to do the same," Trump said.

Super PACs, which can raise and spend unlimited funds, are required to be independent of the campaigns they support, though some candidates blur the lines more than others.

Trump's statement came one day after Politico reported that the main super PAC backing his campaign, Make America Great Again PAC, was closing shop.

The PAC said it decided to shutter because Trump indicated that he didn't want a super PAC, but the decision followed increasing media scrutiny on the connections between Trump's campaign and the supposedly independent operation.

"but it pits him against Citizens United case...."

That's about 5 bridges too far...

He didn't call for the legal elimination of Super Pacs.

This is just his way of pointing out how beholden all the other candidates are to outside donations.

“super pacs,” they do not belong to the candidates.

Right, they just funnel their special interest funds to the candidates they buy and own! There is no corrupt influence peddling going on!

Right crookcounty!

"Wait, are Trumpsters against Citizens United now?"

Did Trump call for making Super PAC's and independent expenditures illegal?

Well, did he?

"We sense people don’t put as much stock in political advertising as they did before they could learn what they want to know in the internet."

When the general populace starts paying attention, Advertising will have as much power as it ever did.

Do no underestimate the effect of a few hunderd million in negative advertising.

And this cycle we will see more of it than ever.

You might want to read about multi-billionaire Meg Whitman. She spent more of her own bucks than any candidate in history in CA and couldn’t even buy the governors office and lost her a$$ after it was found she had illegal house servants. Fort Knox couldn’t have save her.

Trump is no cleaner than any of them.

Really?

Was he collecting government tax funded pay checks while aiding and abetting tens of millions to enter the U.S. illegally during war time, while looting the American treasure of *trillions* on tax payer funded foreign adventures? Trump put us 18,000,000,000,000 in debt to Communist countries and others who'd like to eliminate us? Really?

My point is this: Ads do not work to lift your chosen candidate.

But they can destroy the other candidates in the race.

trump is getting sillier and sillier

Seriously, you don't think people don't believe that PAC's are buying influence? You don't think that everyday people don't see that these "bundlers" are in the game for themselves?

"Get the dirty money out of politics" isn't a message that will resonate?

As for the "unfair to Cruz" point of view. I don't dispute it, but since when is it Trump's job to make it easy or comfortable for Ted Cruz?

Maybe he’d like if they shot themselves in the foot as well.

It looks like most of them already did that.

All the advertisement money in the world will not destroy Trump and put someone like Bush in the Oval Office. That won’t happen. Those days are way over.

He did not ask anyone to not accept campaign donations. He ask for no Super PAC! Candidates have no control of these PACs or what they do in the candidates name. For instance a PAC for Cruz gave Fiorina, I believe, $500,000. That upset me. I think contributions should go to the candidate so they can be responsible for how money is used. Get over it.

And you wonder why polls show people think he’s as dishonest as Hillary Clinton. In every speech he rails against Super PACs, yet he set one up in exactly the same careful, legal way every other candidate does and even appeared at fundraisers for it.

Super Pacs aren't for the candidate to give up. They are independent.

Oh sure, the party insiders, influence peddlers and DC well connected don't infect and run these political PAC's! Right! Why these political PAC's are independent folks with any corrupt special interest's. Good grief!

Just citing the law for you. Or do you want more laws against free speech? Good grief indeed.

Tokyo Rose would be proud!

LOL. Carl Marx, John McCain, Russ Feingold, George W Bush, the Democrats and anybody else who wants to limit free speech would be proud of you.

But dragnet just told be that these PACs aren't independent. So if dragnet is right, that would make Trump a hypocrite.
