The Justice Department is declining to bring charges against Lois Lerner, the former IRS official at the center of a political controversy over the processing of applications for tax-exempt status.
Federal prosecutors announced their decision Friday in a letter to members of Congress.

Any FR legal experts?
When the SHTF, she should be near the top of everyone’s list for retribution.
That is why not giving her immunity ( was that Gowdy? ) was so dumb.
+1
If we could vote on all the deserving cases in this administration to receive prison terms,I would vote early & as often as possible.
Is that how it worked with Iran Contra prosecutions?
A lot of the Iran/Contra prosecutions/indictments came will after Reagan left office. Trump still can prosecute when he gets in.
Ollie North was tried in 1988. Reagan was still in office then. So Ollie North was prosecuted by the Reagan DoJ. And Reagan was followed by another (sort of) Republican administration, Bush I.
But the Clinton Administration that followed Bush I did not further pursue it.
So yes, that is how it worked in the with Iran-Contra affair.
You must be a dem to ignore the facts.
“The DOJ letter sent Friday said Lerner used “poor judgment” in using her IRS email account to send personal messages voicing “political views,” but said they found no evidence that she exercised her official authority at the IRS in a “partisan manner generally” or that political views influenced her actions with regard to the tax-exempt applications.”
Amazing that they can get away with that. Yes, she expressed her political views with her IRS email—and then consistent with those views systematically squelched the tax-exempt applications of those she disagreed with. But somehow she didn’t act in a “partisan manner generally”? Like maybe there was nothing pro-Obama about how she turned her computer on in the morning?
And what kind of a standard is that? “Yes, she’s guilty, but she wasn’t always doing guilty things, so we won’t charge her.”
The only question that remains is how soon will it be before the DOJ starts prosecuting the rest of us for being Saboteurs, Hooligans, Wreckers, Parasites, and Capitalist Bloodsuckers?
You have to enter their warped mind to understand. They disagreed with the supreme court decision and because they are all knowing Gods they decided to use their federal positions to deny tax exempt status to organizations that support civil rights they disagree with. You see not all civil rights are civil rights. Only their definition of civil rights count. The remaining civil rights are “special interests” and evil.
No, he was prosecuted by that idiot "independent" prosecutor Larry Walsh.
And you need to look a little further back. Into History, when tolerating abuse encouraged more abuse.
If the outgoing Administration cannot release their hold on power without facing prosecution for their policies, however treasonous, then they will refuse to do so. This makes an orderly tranfer of power impossible.
I would very much like to see this administration declare that they aren't relinquishing power. I think it would be cathartic for the nation to witness what happens next.
Every election will become a potential civil war.
We are on the verge of a civil war now. What will reduce tensions is the belief that wrong doing will be punished despite legal technicalities. That the letter of the law will not protect you from violating the spirit of the law.
That our nation is just and moral and stands for something other than rich, well-connected people lining their own pockets with the power of government.
If this does not happen, we are lost anyways. Obama has ruled like a Hitler, (to the extent he thought he could get away with) and the next Democrat President will go further unless he has the example of what happened to the current one to dissuade his excesses.
Obama's little puppets announced they weren't going to torment his pet dog.
Donald Trump or Ted Cruz. Take your pick.
I think we can. It's a vote for Ted Cruz. I think Cruz will see to it that the right people are going to prison.
Let me know when he says that, or any other candidate for that matter. Cruz, as of yesterday, is to timid to comment about Ryan being Speaker of the House. Not a good sign.
If he says it now, he's a fool. This is the sort of thing you don't talk about because it will galvanize the opposition, perhaps result in desperate maneuvers and abuses by the Administration.
No, this is something you play very close to your vest. Something about which you breath a word to nobody until it's too late to stop you.
Cruz, as of yesterday, is to timid to comment about Ryan being Speaker of the House. Not a good sign.
Though I disdain pragmatism, I recognize it's necessity now and then. Cruz needs to keep his eye on the ball, and avoid any additional fights with party office holders and such that do not advance him towards his goal.
Have you noticed that he hasn't been criticizing Trump either?
Canny like a fox, that one.
