That's fair enough. But the exact detail that Netanyahu is asking the world to now believe is that the reasonable Hitler was just trying to encourage the nice Jewish people to leave Europe--he never wanted to kill Jews. That is, until the mean Palestinian convinced Hitler to "burn them".
Wow.
No one is saying that Hitler was not quite as evil as we all thought. Its common knowledge that eliminating the Jews of Europe was Hitlers intention all along. However, according to the book entitled Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin, Hitler’s solution early on was not extermination, but simply expropriation of Jewish property, intimidation, and coerced emigration. The island of Madagascar was one option discussed; Poland and the Soviet Union were also discussed as options later in the war. Because Hitlers war aims, with regard to the Soviet Union and Great Britain, were not realized early on, killing all of the Jews became an explicit policy as of late 1941. The book doesnt say anything about the Grand Mufti being the impetus for the decision to exterminate the Jews, however, Hitler did meet with him in November 1941. Knowing the history between the Mufti and Hitler, I wouldnt discount this being the case. I would also be inclined to trust Netanyahu’s knowledge of Jewish history rather than yours.
