The Republicans could have ran Christ in 64 and would have lost after the JFK murder. The 64 election is an oddity in my book. More than likely JFK loses the 1964 election. But with the assassination and the media’s help there was never any doubt about LBJ winning. Rockefeller or any lib Republican you can trot out would have lost.
