On Tuesday’s “New Day” on CNN, Republican presidential front-runner defended his response aimed at his GOP opponent former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-FL), who had claimed in a debate earlier this month that the country was kept safe under former President George W. Bush.

We know it’s coming again. It’s just a matter of time.

And what are we doing about it?

Inviting as many of them in as we can.

Whose fault isn’t it going to be next time?

Move on Donald. Harping on GW and 911 is making you look stupid and desperate.

Statement is perfectly accurate, even Jebby admitted it in his book blaming it on immigration policies. Trump scores on anyone who isn't totally lost in the Bush-cult.

you’re being silly. He’s saying they knew it was coming because he knew it was coming. It didn’t happen in a vacuum and he’s absolutely right

This is not good. Not good at all. Trump’s initial statement would stand, but this is getting into a territory I do not think I can support.

That doesn't really make any sense. It's a fact that Bush received multiple warnings about an impending attack. Even Donald Trump, one year before 911, was saying an attack was inevitable. What was anybody doing about it? Nadda. In fact, the same immigration policies that let the terrorists in under shoddy Visa applications were kept in place.

The first round of DUmmies bought this story from Michael Moore. The new round of DUmmies buy the same slop from The Donald, the latest moon at leftist media clown.

For his next act, Donald will explain how fire can't melt steel.

He’ll have more credibility now when he does go after the Clintons on this.

Here’s a problem as I see it. Trump (although I know his supporters will disagree) isn’t always the most articulate speaker. I know he can be inspiring and positive with words, that’s not what I mean. Sometime he’ll say something awkwardly and conclusions are drawn about what he really thinks. Today he clarifies his original statement about Bush not keeping us safe. He distinguishes the fact of 9/11 from the blame of Bush.

But, in so doing, he opens another mess. It SOUNDS as if he’s heading into truther territory. But I don’t think he means they knew specifically that planes were hitting the WTC on 9/11. I think he means they knew something big and bad was coming.

However, if he’s going there at all I’d be a lot happier if he’d also throw Clinton in the bathwater along with Bush. Clinton knew it was coming too. I’d rather he threw ALL the establishment out...

If I’m wrong and he really IS going truther, well, then all bets are off. So far, I don’t think that’s what he meant.

He’s playing the general election NOW. This isn’t really about Jeb imo.

He can repeat exactly what Democrats have been saying for years (which used to be laughed at) and now many conservatives buy every word of it.

I think your problem here is just reflexive Republican defense mode. This is a party that's done nothing but screw us, while we're expected to give unconditional loyalty to even in defiance of facts.

Bush gets several warnings that cross his desk, but doesn’t step up priority. He fails to recognize the threat.

Condi Rice admits that to the 9/11 Commission in particular here the 8/6 2001 PDB. Listen to this clip.

I think a lot of the Bush anguish is in the fact that after 9/11 Bush did nothing to close the border. That could have happened right there and then on 9/12. Illegals would have been rounded up right after. Expired tourist and student visas could have been tracked down. But nothing.

The resentment is not that Bush let it happen - he did not correct the root cause of the error - immigration.

Pearl Harbor was FDR's "mistake" but the nation forgave him that because of how he handled the fight back to Japan. Bush gave us an Iraq war that never ends and seems to have made things worse and not better.

What I wrote above is my interpretation of Joe Six Pack's perception of Bush around of the events of 9/11 and after.

Well you guys can jump around and scream bloddy murder all you want.

But since the aftermath of 9-11 have been botched wars, thousands of young Americans dead for no real benefit, complete chaos in the middle east, less freedoms for us, and Bush leaving office with a 25% approval rating, paving the way for Obama, and even more chaos.

Dont expect that you will find many people standing up to defend W’s “honor”. It may not feel good hearing what he is saying, but even I had to start questioning my 100000% cheer-leading for many stupid decisions W made back then.

If this had ended like WW2 did, then Bush would be assailable, just like FDR was after Pearl Harbor.

If you squint a bit at his picture, Trump does look a bit like Michael Moore.

The dems are loving this. Trump is doing some valuable work for them.

Trump is great spokesperson for Democrats. He can repeat exactly what Democrats have been saying for years (which used to be laughed at) and now many conservatives buy every word of it. The DNC and DU might as well just go on hiatus. Trump’s carrying their water!

Apparently Trump thought that the Democrats were better on terrorism. Two months before 9-11, in July of 2001, Trump switched his registration to -- Democrat.

SMH.

Clinton ignored the warnings. Bush ignored the warnings.

Hillary ignored the warnings about Benghazi.

The theme is evident, but it starts with Bush to clean out the garage a bit.

Since Trump knew that airplane attacks on the twin towers, pentagon and white house/congress were coming and didn’t tell anyone, then he is at fault for the 3,000 dead. And the survivors and next of kin should sue him as being an ‘aider and abettor’ in the attacks.

to say ‘I knew an attack was coming because Osama had threatened attacks and was behind the 1994 tower attack’ but didn’t know when, where, or how, is just bluster.

Waiting for the Bush-bots on this forum to explain what is so conspiratorial about basic stuff like:

“The Bush White House ignored even more warnings about September 11 than we thought, according to journalist Kurt Eichenwald, who has a column in the NYT and a new book out today.

We already knew about the presidential brief from Aug. 6, 2001 that was titled “Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S.” The White House has shown that this declassified document was primarily a history of Al Qaeda, not a warning of imminent attack.

But there were other briefings, some seen by Eichenwald, that did warn of an imminent attack.

On May 1 the CIA said that a terrorist group in the U.S. was planning an attack.

On June 22 it warned that this attack was “imminent.”

On June 29 the brief warned of near-term attacks with “dramatic consequences” including major casualties.

On July 1, the briefing said that the terrorist attack had been delayed but “will occur soon.”

On July 24, the president was told again that the attack had been delayed but would occur within months.”

http://www.businessinsider.com/new-report-shows-how-many-warnings-about-bin-laden-were-ignored-by-the-bush-white-house-2012-9

Blame Bush or don’t blame Bush, but you can’t sit there and claim that they had fears of an impending attack as a major priority. Even after 911, the SAME immigration policies and refusal to enforce the law that enabled 911 was kept in place.

During clinton’s second term, I remember a foreboding news story concerning national security and imminent threat to our country, but no details were released. I never forgot it and when 9/11 happened, I thought that was IT, delayed a year or two.

Yeah, I think it was the separation of the intelligence communities that continued under Bush that allowed it to happen.
