Former Republican president George W. Bush told donors that Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is his brother Jeb Bushs most formidable opponent in the GOP primary, according to Politico.
Politico spoke to half a dozen donors at an Oct. 18 event in Denver. The attendees reported that Bush said I just dont like the guy.
Bush also slammed Cruzs alliance with runaway frontrunner Donald Trump, who has repeatedly mocked Jeb as pathetic and low energy.

The event was organized by the GOP establishment to bolster Jebs campaign. But it managed to attract only one hundred donors by offering last-minute, reduced-price ticket sales to fill up the room, Politico added.

It’s all about Texas. The days of Bush, Dewhurst, Cornyn, Rove, etc. are coming to an end in Texas and the oligarchs are not happy about it.
wonder who are the 100.
The left spent so much time and energy demonizing GWB its a shame they won't be able to make much hey of these comments now. But try they will.
My tagline in action...
I find it opportunistic that Cruz is sucking up to Trump and just expecting all of his support to come to him in the end. It's frustrating to watch Cruz basically hijack the Republican Party in general and specifically in Texas. I just don't like the guy. Nevertheless, Cruz is going to be a pretty formidable candidate against Jeb, especially in Texas and across the South. .
Ted Cruz response:
I have great respect for George W Bush, and was proud to work on his 2000 campaign and in his administration. Its no surprise that President Bush is supporting his brother and attacking the candidates he believes pose a threat to his campaign. I have no intention of reciprocating. I met my wife Heidi working on his campaign, and so I will always be grateful to him.
Folks, you tell me. Which of those two statements garners the most respect, shows the strongest leadership skills, and sounds most presidential?
I respected that W was remaining largely quiet in this...not now.
Trump/Cruz - No more GOPe, no more Bushes.
The oligarchs in Texas are upset that the Bush dynasty will be coming to an end.
Ted Cruz hijacked the GOP? Cool.
With the Bushes it does seem to be they want the power but want to keep it by selling out to the highest bidder. The Bush dynasty is not poor. They could self-fund if they had a relative who's smart enough to do what Trump is doing.
I've stated this before. The one positive from despicable Jeb's campaign is that the "aw shucks" routine does not work for this mama's boy cry baby. We're seeing the dynasty for what it is, and they all look pretty awful. JMHO
I agree.....
I have a strong feeling that the Bushes are oblivious to America’s decline, so long as they remain in charge. Sr. Bush, however, was an unparalleled war hero. Cannot understand their apathy....
I don’t care if Trump trashes “W” or any of the Bush family. They are parasites.
Your comment certainly does make one ponder. You just might be correct in that statement.
What has any of the Bush clan ever done for the GOP?
Looks like GW has taken time off cutting switch grass to create a little distraction away from Trump, who is the REAL threat to his little brother.
GWB comes out of his hidey-hole long enough to criticize a conservative.
Thanks, George.
They gave us homeland security and airport molestations. For us of course, not them.
It's not strange at all. Remember, the establishment view is that Trump's support will collapse... that he's not really a longterm threat... merely a passing dalliance among the primary voters.
Rightly or wrongly, GWB believes Cruz is the real threat to Jeb's campaign.
Wow, I don’t get it. Trump has been the one taking down Jeb, piece by piece, and GWB comes out against Cruz? Maybe he feels Cruz is a worse threat to his brother. And, yes, most families will stick up for each other - presidents or what not - it’s the way it is, so I don’t fault GWB for that. I’m just scratching my head at his attack on Cruz. And, Cruz’s response was perfect and classy.
“Politico? I think I will take this with a grain of salt....but, if true, very disappointing after 16 years of silence against his critics and true enemies of this country......”
Spokesman for Bush did not deny the attacks on Cruz.
