White House officials pushed to ban conversion therapy for LGBT youths, pointing to new findings that debunk the therapy.
A ban on the conversion therapy for minors was introduced in Congress on Thursday, following a report from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
"The science rebukes this so-called practice and so do we," White House Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett told reporters on a call Thursday.
The report from the administration includes a consensus from an expert panel held by the American Psychological Association earlier this summer.
The panel found that variations in "sexual orientation and gender identity are normal, and that conversion therapies or other efforts to change sexual orientation or gender identity are not effective, are harmful and are not appropriate therapeutic practices."
It added that there is limited research on conversion therapy for minors, but none of the research available proves that such interventions can alter a child's gender identity or sexual orientation.
The report also referred to prior findings from the American Psychological Association and American Psychiatric Association that such therapy could be harmful.
The report goes into existing efforts to eliminate conversion therapy.
Administration officials, when asked about whether such a ban would undermine religious liberty, concede that the issue could be controversial.
"We focused heavily on the well-being of children," said Elliot Kennedy, special expert for LGBT affairs for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
Jarrett said the administration's focus is on banning conversion for youth, saying that adults are able to make their own decisions.
Back Alley conversion therapy it is then.
Where does “da White House” get its authority to do this? This isn’t in the Constitution.
Yes I agree. This seems like another area of life for which you wonder, how is it that this therapy is something which the federal government should be involved with in the first place.
“Back Alley conversion .....”
That maybe what happened in the first place.
In other words, it is DOA.
For now.
In other words conversion therapy works!
Nothing this bunch does is in the constitution, but who will stop them? No one, unfortunately.
Constitution? We don’t need no stinkin’Constitution! /s
That is why the ICD-10 diagnosis codes are so important to the Feds - any therapist trying to treat someone who wants help with their “gender confusion” will not be paid if that is how the patient’s treatment is defined. Worse yet, the authorities will go after practitioners’ licenses for trying to help the gender confused with their mental health problems. Brave New World...foretold...
White House green-lights recruitment of minors into the homosexual lifestyle.
if I was in the house of representatives.I would be willing to vote to ban conversion therapy if they banned psychiatrist doing gender conversion... basically telling kids that have gender identity issues that they can dress and identify as the opposite sex. until they are willing to do that its a no to me.....I think we are making a big mistake messing with kids in an area that frankly no one understand....let the kids grow up and make the decision on theses issues.
Such therapy could be “harmful?” So I would assume they will also admit that “treatment” for pedophiles is futile. Or not.

And, of course, psychiatrists will be encouraged to suggest that otherwise straight kids explore their homosexual tendencies. But the opposite is not allowed.
Regarding conversion therapy, the states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate, tax and spend for such issues.
And it is very predictable that the corrupt, post-17th Amendment ratification Senate is not going to lift a finger to kill any action by Congress or the executive branch to stop the ban on conversion therapy, the states having the 10th Amendment-protected power to address such issues.

Would they ban hormone therapy for “transgender” kids?
Kids getting bodytwisting hormones and in some cases surgery. A-okay
Kids getting talked to. Horrific abuse that must be outlawed.
