I know being he is not in public office nothing stops him from still earning an income until he is elected.

He can I believe donate whatever he wants from his income from the book to the campaign.
Probably could take a deduction as well for what he donates legally.
I think the problem would be more to do with what happens regarding money used AFTER it is in that political account.
Then IMO you better keep records and keep it neat, all legal and tidy.
