In Tuesday nights Democratic presidential debate on CNN, Sen. Bernie Sanders said he was going to explain to Americans what democratic socialism is.
Moderator Anderson Cooper asked: Senator Sanders, a Gallup poll says half the country would not put a socialist in the White House. You call yourself a democratic socialist. How can any kind of socialist win a general election in the United States?
Sanders replied: Well, we're going to win because first we're going to explain what democratic socialism is. And what democratic socialism is about is saying that it is immoral and wrong that the top one-tenth of 1 percent in this country own almost 90 percent--own almost as much wealth as the bottom 90 percent. That it is wrong, today--in a rigged economy--that 57 percent of all new income is going to the top 1 percent.
That when you look around the world, you see every other major country providing health care to all people as a right, except the United States. You see every other major country saying to moms that when you have a baby, we are not going to separate you from your newborn baby, because we are going to have medical and family paid leave, like every other country on Earth.
Those are some of the principles that I believe in, and I think we should look to countries like Denmark, like Sweden and Norway, and learn from what they have accomplished for their working people.
Shortly later, Cooper asked Sanders: You don't consider yourself a capitalist, though?
Sanders replied: Do I consider myself part of the casino capitalist process by which so few have so much and so many have so little by which Wall Street's greed and recklessness wrecked this economy? No, I don't. I believe in a society where all people do well. Not just a handful of billionaires.
Yeah, because the U.S. is the poorest country in the world. Everyday I pass starving people by the thousands with their arms outstretched begging for scraps of food.
They all live in tar-paper shacks by the side of the road as billionaires drive by in their Caddies lighting up cigars with 100 dollar bills. I'm living on gruel and water myself. It's just horrible.
He seriously wants the US to become like Sweden, where the incidence of rape has increased 14-fold over the past several decades, which makes it the most dangerous place for women in the developed world?

BTW, Denmark isn’t far behind.
We are socialists because we reject an economic order based on private profit, alienated labor, gross inequalities of wealth and power, discrimination based on race and sex, and brutality and violence in defense of the status quo. We are socialists because we share a vision of a humane social order based on popular control of resources and production, economic planning, equitable distribution, feminism, racial equality and non-oppressive relationships. We are socialists because we are developing a concrete strategy for achieving that vision, for building a majority movement that will make democratic socialism a reality in America. We believe that such a strategy must acknowledge the class structure of American society and that this class structure means that there is a basic conflict of interest between those sectors with enormous economic power and the vast majority of the population.
Many years ago I had a couple of friends who had factory jobs where they made good money. I worked for the same corporation as a paper pusher making a lot less money than they did.
All they talked about was unfair it was that some people had more money than they had. They were convinced the rich never paid any taxes.
Naturally, they were both strong Democrats. They weren't lazy, they were hard workers. But they thought it was unfair that other people had more than they had. And they had it good.
This is cartoonish. Sanders is obviously a far left stalking horse to moderate the Hildebeast.
Very well explained. You are being modest; you have distilled, refined and honed your words where there can be no doubt of the worthlessness of "Democratic" Socialism.
In Russia the Communist party re-branded itself as Democratic Socialist.
Bernie is a commie.
Awesome quote.
Fitting that I bought her book, “We The Living” today!

Object: The establishment of a system of society based on the common ownership and democratic control of the means and instruments for producing and distributing wealth by and in the interest of society as a whole.
” You see every other major country saying to moms that when you have a baby, we are not going to separate you from your newborn baby, because we are going to have medical and family paid leave, like every other country on Earth.”
Tell that to 200 million Dead Chinese female newborns whose GOVERNMENT only allows 1 child per family.
No Bernie, I don’t need it explained. I know exactly what it is. We’ve been living in it for quite a while now.
At what point do these jackasses not understand, we are not Europe and if the founding fathers wanted us to be like Europe we would still be under the crown.
And Bernie, when you decide that you're going to raise taxes on the top tier of earners, do you know what will happen?
They're going to look you (or your appointed agents) square in the eye, yell "F*** you!" (or some other less-than-pleasing epithet) and then they will open fire.
If anyone thinks the 'rich' will turn over their wealth willingly, they are deluded.
” I believe in a society where all people do well. “
Might as well add in Unicorns that fart rainbows.
we already understand what socialism is, Bernie
you can explain it all you wish
it doesn’t work (and its grossly immoral)
Isn’t that where the peeple vote to have the Government steal stuff from those who busted their arse to make a living and give it to the peeps who voted to have the Government steal it?
We already have a socialistic economy and it is smothering us and killing incentive.
We’ve seen it in action for 7 years now. Why would need an explanation? We never wanted it and now we understand exactly why.
