A mother is refusing to back down from calls demanding she remove a tiny flag hanging in her window in honor of her military son on tour in the Middle East.

Your life will be simpler if you don’t sign contracts you don’t plan on honoring.
You might try reading the excerpt, at least, before commenting. " Colored blue and red with a single star in its centre" That's not an American flag.
Proverbs 20:3 - [It is] an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.
1 Peter 4:15 - But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.
Not in a commie HOA. Homeowners sign the agreement stating their window dressing will be white and only white so clashing colors won't distract in the neighborhood. Do NOT ever move into an HOA. NEVER EVER!
The HOA lawyer probably inserted the language. A general principle in property law is that you must assert your right within a reasonable time, or you can lose it. A year is typical. Example: my neighbor build a fence two feet inside my property line. If I don't complain within a year, he is going to own that slice of my property
What would you know about honor? Your refusal to acknowledge context in this issue - and context is a part of contracts - identifies you as fundamentally dishonorable.
.
Only insanity is exempted in any HOA.
The test for insanity is buying property that is subject to the marxist nonsense of a HOA.
.
A person’s word is worth something, even when it hurts them to carry out their promises, or it isn’t.
Your situational ethics does confirm your conclusion that there is a significant difference in your view of honor, and mine.
I certainly would never want to do business with you, and I’m sure you feel quite the same, as I’d expect you to honor your word, and that expectation is clearly unreasonable.
I sent this story to Mike Smironish.
He use to be a lawyer out of Philly before he got into talk radio.
Your clinging to irrelevant generalities exposes you for what your are. Situational ethics? So the HOA gets to call a symbol a mother set up inside her house to honor her son, a symbol set up by the federal government precisely to PUBLICLY honor military personnel in combat, a “too decorative flag,” and any disagreement with that abject and dishonorable abuse of HOA power and contract RAPE is situational ethics?
How do you type, with a jackboot shoved so far up your hypocritical, bureaucratic @ss?
If you don’t want to die by the HOA don’t live in a HOA. I’m all for HOA’s and the tyranny that can mean but I won’t live in one. Adults are free to pick and chose. That said the HOA must enforce its bylaws in a consistent manner or she has a legit gripe.
Depends on the state. Most states, it's going to be 10 to 30 years unless there is color of title. For example, in Louisiana, it is 10 years with good faith and just title; otherwise it is 30 years. Georgia, it's 7 years under color of title; otherwise 20 years. Texas, generally 10 years, with 25 years in some circumstances, and a shorter period when suit must be brought after discovery.
It can be a surprisingly complex and fact driven situation.
Some folks go through live ignoring laws they don’t like. Sounds like it has worked for you thus far. If you aren’t afraid of an eternal accounting, keep enjoying yourself, and hope you are not held responsible for your acts in this lifetime.

And my opinion and attitude remains the same for the people who bitch about it.
No they don't. Not if they live in a HOA.
People who want to retain their rights need to avoid HOAs.
Are the callers illegal aliens?
CAIR members?
I don't understand people who agree to the HOA requirements and then feel they are exempt from them.
I don't understand people who call themselves conservative who feel contracts are not to be honored. But then our president and our government set the example and some are willing to follow.
Strong words to direct to a fellow freeper. You know nothing about this person yet call them fundamentally dishonorable. Shame.
