Homosexuals are by and large middle income or better and college educated, the same demographics that are buying less of “Big Food” products with lots of additives, in other words the main products Campbell's makes. You don't see Whole Foods stores in blue collar suburbs or nonwhite urban neighborhoods. The shoppers in downmarket stores are Campbell's customer base, not the affluent, irrespective of sexual preference. In the case of Chobani, Greek yogurt tends to have an upscale and college educated customer base, so it is likely that their promotion of lesbianism did not hurt them. On the other hand, Campbell's glorification of perversion draws from a desire to appear “progressive” rather than marketing considerations.
