Northern SYRIA. This, if true, is most definitely NOT wise of the Turks. Turks shooting down a Russian plane in Syrian airspace (in which the Russians are technically Syria’s guests) would certainly be classified as a provocation.
The main thing that the damn Turks have been doing in Syria and Northern Iraq is bombing the Kurds. And the Kurds are just about the only effective ground force fighting ISIS. Turkey is, in many ways, allied with ISIS...certainly economically from which they benefit by their below market price purchase of oil.
If Turkey starts a war by shooting down Russian craft in Syria, can we just let them get destroyed :)
