A roughly 2,000-mile fence on the Mexican border would cost tens of billions.
If Donald Trump were to build a wall along the United States' southern border, it would cost billions.
The U.S. border with Mexico is roughly 2,000 miles long and underlines four states from California to Texas. It is a massive stretch of land the Berlin Wall spanned just 96 miles comparatively, and it cost about $25 million to build in 1961, or around $200 million with inflation.
Building a wall to keep out illegal immigrants is not a novel plan. About 670 miles of fencing on the U.S.-Mexico border was completed in accordance with the Bush administration's Secure Fence Act of 2006. That alone cost about $2.4 billion, for roughly one-third of the entire border and, according to migration experts, some of the easier and less costly areas to fence.
The Secure Fence Act called for 700 miles of fencing, with a double layer throughout, but much of the barrier isn't reinforced this way. Even before the fence reached its first stage of completion, some argued it was not being constructed properly....

This is pure bogus bilge. All it takes is want to.
Fences work when you want them to:

Israel did it. And this link includes a list of all similar border fences:

Saudi did it.

It isn’t hard and it won’t break the bank.
and here is what ILLEGALS are costing this country EVERY YEAR
Between $400 billion and $600 billion- a couple tens of billions sounds like a bloomin bargain to me
Mention some kind of spending that might actually make America stronger, and left-wingers become penny pinchin misers.
[[Whats the cost if we dont build it? Hundreds of billions.]]
There are estimates of between $400 billion and $600 billion, with some figuring an even higher cost than that- That figure of $400 billion comes from adding up practically everything from the cost of lawyers whom the taxpayers pay for for illegals, to the cost of paying for the damage criminal aliens do to families, from the cost of housing illegals in prison (many prisons are near 70% illegals, at an average cost of $145 per day- compared to the average cost of a legal citizen on SS of about $20 per day... funny how we can find all kinds of money for illegals, but we just can’t seem to find enough money for our nations most vulnerable LEGAL citizens ... Seniors, disabled and veterans), to the cost of lost stolen items- from the loss of taxes, to the loss of money as they send it over the border
I’ll say it again- a couple billion sounds like a bloomin bargain to me
What do 19 million illegals cost us? Lots MORE than a damn wall... Build it.
I have no interest in paying for some more fencing if it also comes with Amnesty, increases in legal immigration from the wrong places, increases in "refugee" admissions, increases in H1b visas, etc, etc.
“Another third is the hot godforsaken AZ desert. “
I hear it’s quite comfortable for 4-5 months out of the year.
I think it would be fun.
I’d pay more taxes for a wall like the one Israel has!
Yep, We would enjoy every minute of it, would not even need the draft all would be volunteers. lol
For umpteen generations into the future, multiplying like rabbits...
Something has to happen. Back in the dinosaur days when I was in school population control was all the rage and the meme was to have less children so we could preserve our natural resources for our grandchildren’s grandchildren to enjoy. So much for that dream and all those billions spent.
With a population of some 30% hispanic, what California has taught us about illegals of today is they are less educated, that increasing numbers compete for a decreasing number of low-skilled jobs, which drives down wages for natives, and that the number of jobs in housekeeping/roofing/landscaping, etc. tend to decrease with the retirement of each native high-wage earner who can afford such services. Hispanics consume more in social services and natural resources than natives, their taxes paid don’t come anywhere near the real cost, and today’s hispanics are less inclined to assimilate; ‘culturally sensitive’ services add to the cost. Because hispanics tend to have more children, and the children are also culturally less inclined to higher education, the population is dumbed down as a whole, translating to an inefficient work force. The impact of those unskilled parents retiring in 30 or 40 years has yet to be imagined, as is the cost of maintaining their children from birth to death. Certainly the cost of maintaining 80 million indigent immigrants over the next 30 years is less than building a fence and enforcing our immigration laws.
80 million number comes from the State Department press release of May 24, 2012:
http://fpc.state.gov/190931.htm
Rakesh Kochhar, Associate Director for Research at the Pew Hispanic Center; speaking: “...In 2005, the U.S. was home to 296 million people. And projecting from that, under different immigration scenarios, we believe that the U.S. population in the year 2050 is likely to be 438 million. So from 2005 to 2050, thats an increase of about 140 million.
“What happens if, in this time, the U.S. had shut its borders to immigration? So this is a hypothetical scenario, but if you literally have the perfect seal applied to the borders, what would happen to the U.S. population? And thats the next slide. Instead of growing to 438 million, under the zero immigration scenario, the U.S. population goes from 296 million to only 321 million, which is an increase 25 million, not 140 million.
“So does this mean the additional 115 million is all immigration? No. It is immigration and their children and their grandchildren and so on. But its in some way linked to immigration, almost all of the growth in the U.S. population between now and 2050. Within this, the Hispanic population in the next slide over increases from 42 million in 2005 to 128 million in the year 2050, which is an increase of 80 million. So 80 million out of 140 million people added to the population by 2050 will be Hispanic.”
After spending trillion$ on Porkulus, Obamacare, welfare benefits and other destructive examples of waste, suddenly these people are deficit hawks when it comes to securing the border.
I don’t care if the wall cost a TRILLION dollars if that is the price to save America. As Reagan said, “A country that cannot control its borders is no longer a country.”
