I think you’ve uncovered the truth on the pretenders. Carter was one of these IMO.
God forgive me, but I didn’t see him as a good Christian or a reasoned man. He was a vicious sort and seemed to relish being in the company of brutal dictators.
He could be a ruthless vindictive man.
