ROSEBURG, Ore. A week has passed since J.J. Vicari huddled underneath a desk while gunshots exploded in the classroom next door. Now, he is thinking about guns. Not about tightening gun laws, as President Obama urged after nine people were killed at the community college here. But about buying one for himself.
Its opened my eyes, said Vicari, 19. I want to have a gun in the house to protect myself, to protect the people Im with. Im sure Ill have a normal life and never have to go through anything like this, but I want to be sure.
Obama plans to visit Roseburg on Friday to meet the grieving families of yet another gun rampage, but many people here are bristling at his renewed call for stricter gun laws. In some ways, the rampage at the college by a 26-year-old student, Christopher Harper-Mercer, has actually tightened the embrace of guns in a rural town where shots at rifle ranges echo off the hills and hunters bag deer and elk through the fall.
Some families touched by the violence and students who fled gunfire said they now feared that the kind of bloodshed seen inside Classroom 15 at Snyder Hall, Umpqua Community College, could happen anywhere.
Some said they were planning to buy guns. Others said they would seek concealed-weapons permits. Others, echoing gun-advocates calls for more weapons on campus, said the college should allow its security guard to carry guns.

They should and will sue the college -—soon. MACE!!! You cant make that up!!
Why?
Wrongful death.
For setting up the student body as defenseless sitting ducks.
Best case, for violation of the Constitution (Second Amendment).
Take your pick or take all three, and anything anyone else can think of.
Inadequate Security!
I walk into a bank. I don't expect the bank to protect me.
Etc,,,Etc....
Because the have NO AUTHORITY under Oregon law to ban guns.
God forsaken gun free zone.
I don’t expect the store to protect me either. HOWEVER, I also do not expect any store or school to take away my right of self-defense.
Signs don't stop the bad guys..............
You can be kicked out of school if caught with a tool used to defend your very life.
They should be sued for millions for that.
It's about damn time...people in America stand up for their rights. Stand up for the 2nd Amendment...!!
IS A SIGN GOING TO STOP YOU PROTECTING YOURSELF,,,AND YOUR FAMILY????????
Correct. By same, if you walk into a bank that is a gun free zone, the bank should be liable for any demise. Refusing to let us protect ourselves gives them that ACCOUNTABILITY. Any gun free zone therefore accepts full responsibility for any problem in my book.
Not just kicked out. Weapons on campus is a crime in most states, regardless of school policy.
Good for him. Unfortunately,he had to learn this simple lesson the tragic way.
Yeah, waste of time. Sue the city and state instead
There's this thing about....being responsible for yourself.
There's this thing about being a sheepdog...
There's this thing about being professional and polite...but being prepared.
There's this thing about....taking care of me, and mine.
Not looking for anyone else to take care of my security. My security is up to me....
You may disagree....Fair enough.
Good luck.
Dumb asses that let their weapon be seen....Are just that.
Its opened my eyes,
