Ben Carson said Thursday that Adolph Hitlers mass murder of Jews would have been greatly diminished if German citizens had not been disarmed by the Nazi regime.
The comment, which came during an interview with CNNs Wolf Blitzer, was similar to arguments Carson made following last weeks mass shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Ore., in which he defended the Second Amendment and suggested that the victims should have fought the gunman.

But you don't think American's should be dis-armed?
I'm confused........
Maybe so, but that is not really the point. The only thing that ended up stopping the Nazis was bigger better guns (in every sense of the term). Whether they were willing to use guns for their personal protection or not, the fact is that that was the only way to stop them. And what about the other citizens of Germany and the invaded countries? Confiscating guns from the citizens was the first thing the nazis did. Why? So the people could not rebel.
The film you may be referring to is “Uprising,” about the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising...The film is total fiction. Watching it, you see dozens, if not hundreds of German casualties...In reality, the Germans suffered about 110 casualties, of which only 16 or 17 were KIA.
I’m not sure where I “lied”
He’s right.
Pretty dense on your part. When an army with tanks, stukas, and artillery attacked the Ghetto, of course they couldn’t win.
But how might Kristalnacht have gone?
And most of the Jews were arrested by a few Nazi cops, that’s it. If everyone the went after has the ability to defend themselves, it would indeed have been very different.
I suspect you’ve never had to figure out the puzzle of how to get an unwilling person out of a residence, when the person has a gun or two. In fact, im sure of it.
“And what about the other citizens of Germany and the invaded countries?”
Now that would have been different, a vastly armed cross-section of the populations would have been radically different and would have caused immense trouble, which is why they were disarmed.
But a section of the population, historically at that time, known for being in general pacifist wouldn’t have really made much difference for that section of the population. What eventually occurred would have occurred regardless.
There’s no confusion.
One = historically pacifist at the time.
The other = not the pacifist type.
There’s a difference.
You said: "For him to say if Jews would have had guns all would have been okay, is just totally foolish."
He did not say that. You fabricated words and then attributed those words to Carson. You claimed that he said something that he did not in fact say. Plainly stated, you lied.
That is not the film. I have never seen that film. Still, all the Jews were eventually going to be murdered. So even if all they could kill was one Nazi, I say good for them. The United Flight 93 people died with the terrorists. They didn’t have guns but they used what they had. They killed what, two terrorists when an entire plane full of innocent people died. It is not the number. It is the principle. Plus they saved the terrorist’s target. Wouldn’t it have been nice if someone could have had a weapon and saved that plane full of people?
Unfortunately not, it’s difficult in Britain.
I personally believe that one should be allowed a gun if that’s what one wants....except if a person has mental health issues of course, that just wouldn’t be a good idea.
Well just read the headline “Carson suggests that gun rights might have CHANGED HISTORY....”
Got that right. Obama is importing people into the Country that vow to kill me and then he wants to take my gun away? No way, ever.. never ever. Why haven’t we stormed this White House?
You mean, AFTER the Nazis put the Jews in a walled, mined, and machine-gun enforced ghetto? After that?
Or maybe if they just shot every cop or Nazi that showed up at the door to put them on a train?
“you MIGHT not be successful in stopping them, but I think you should try,”
Exactly. Lets say you lose the small lonely shootout at your front door. What good did you do you ask?
You killed two Nazi cops, but the third one gets you, the lonely Jewish German. Maybe it happens somewhere else across town. Tomorrow morning the cops get handed the list of addresses.
Funny things begin to happen.
The cops want 5 or 6 guys, not 2 or 3. They move a bit slower. Lunchbreak lasts a little longer. No answer at the first knock? Maybe we just decide “not home” and go on to the next address. Everything slows down by half. When you walk people out to the street, the searches much be much more slow, much more detailed. Another arrest team is watching the front door of the target house, when someone kills two of them from behind and vanishes into an alley.
The hunters are becoming the hunted. Don’t believe me? Ask any American cop how fun it would be to go door to door rounding up... (fill in the blank) for organized state murder.
But maybe in an armed society, it doesn’t even get here. Because in the high level genocide meeting someone knows the targets are armed.
You speak of compliant Jews. That was early. When the game was known, they had no means to resist. You are very young and ignorant. You will learn in time.
Oh, I agree that in principal resistance is better than dying like sheep. In light of the fact that you’ve never seen “Uprising” the rest of my comment was null — but I’ve argued with a shocking number of people who point to the film as if it is in any way historical, and I always like to point to the actual history of the event when it comes up.
Yes, he is right.
Oh, and the “young and ignorant” observation. That was for Lucy of course, not you sir. We are in solid agreement. I answered you, inspired by your comment about how you have to at least TRY fighting back!
My grandparents came from Warsaw. This is what happened when Jews were able to get guns in Poland. Had they been armed early on, perhaps the Holocaust would have been different.
From April 19 to May 16, 1943, during World War II (1939-45), residents of the Jewish ghetto in Nazi-occupied Warsaw, Poland, staged an armed revolt against deportations to extermination camps. The Warsaw ghetto uprising inspired other revolts in extermination camps and ghettos throughout German-occupied Eastern Europe.
