WASHINGTON Representative Kevin McCarthy on Thursday abruptly took himself out of the race to succeed John A. Boehner as speaker, apparently undone by the same forces that drove Mr. Boehner to resign.

NC's Rep Jones Wants Vetting of Leadership Candidates BEFORE The Fact
Boehners Probable Replacement Carrying on Long Running Affair
SEPTEMBER 25, 2015
BY CHARLES C. JOHNSON
GotNews.com first published this article earlier this year and has received numerous confirmations about it since then. Neither McCarthy, nor Ellmers has denied it and now that McCarthy is next in line for the speakership of the House the affair has taken on new relevance.
Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC) and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) (center) at the U.S. Capitol July 28, 2011 in Washington, DC. Multiple sources within Bakersfield, North Carolina, & on Capitol Hill tell Gotnews.com that Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Renee Ellmers (R-NC) have been carrying on a long-running affair since 2011.
The affair is something of an open secret in Washington, D.C. Reporters at other publications, lobbyists, congressional staffers of both parties all know about it. One staffer for a congressman describes it as the biggest open secret in D.C. A lobbyist describes Ellmers as a social climber who has ingratiated herself with McCarthy.
House leadership also knows about the affair. Speaker John Boehner reportedly told McCarthy to stop the affair once McCarthy was elected Majority Leader says a well placed congressional staffer. At least one leadership staffer doesnt think the affair ended. They are unusually close, says the staffer who insists that the affair is going on. Its weird if hes not fn her.
Ellmers, who was elected in 2010, has traveled with Kevin McCarthy throughout North Carolina on the campaign trail in 2014. McCarthy campaigned for Ellmers during her 2014 primary challenge with radio talk show host Frank Roche.
The New York Times discussed McCarthy and Ellmerss working relationship in a 2011 article.
McCarthy, who cant stand the sight of blood, appreciates the ex-nurses toughness. Ellmers is one of nine women in this high-testosterone freshman class and has to find her own way of being heard. She barraged McCarthy with e-mails and phone calls saying she saw little sense in the G.O.P. leaderships decision in June to send the White House a message by bringing to the floor a clean (or condition-free) debt ceiling and then resoundingly voting it down. Sometimes when Ellmers is talking to the whip and doesnt think shes getting through to him, she claps her hands loudly in front of his face. Sometimes McCarthy giggles and claps back.
The two Republicans travel together, campaign together, and support one another in conferences.
McCarthy has also made a number of trips to North Carolina to visit with Ellmers in North Carolina.
The trips coincide with when the affair is said to have occurred.
Ellmers was elected in 2010 in a close election after her opponent assaulted someone on the street. She has since been drawn into a safe congressional seat.
A Tea Party darling whose win surprised the party bosses, Ellmers has come into disrepute lately for her controversial positions on amnesty, spending, and abortion. She quickly teamed up with the leadership, though. Ellmers leaked sensitive details from Tea Party-linked representatives to McCarthy and Boehner, says a congressional staffer familiar with the early discussions. Ellmers also worked with House leadership to pull a pro-life partial birth abortion ban bill.
Ellmers had previously supported the same bill several years prior but said that she was upset with the exception for rape language in the bill.
Calls and emails to Reps. Ellmerss and McCarthys offices were unreturned.
Gotnews.com also reached out to Brent Ellmers, her husband, but hasnt heard back. His number from his medical practice has been discontinued.
Thanks. I’m a little behind the curve now. I’ve been in classes in Wilkes-Barre all day.
Scalise hold the old Livingston seat. Jindal held it briefly too.
This is a great thing. Now with any luck there will be a mass announcement of Leftists from the GOP because the place is far from fixed. Lots of mercenary staffers will be gunning for whatever non GOPe gets the nod.
Which is the entire problem with trying to ‘fix’ a polluted party. Celebrate? Sure. But with caution because They will be adopting a scorched earth policy.
ah, yes, right
Nancy did her job.
Actually, anyone can be elected Speaker of the House. You don’t have to be a Congressman.
Great that McCarthy dropped his bid. Time for a real Conservative!
I have a feeling that the McCarthy Ellers sex story was/is about to be published.
Good points.
McCarthy pulls out, Ellmers lights a cigarette...

Boehner says he’ll stay on until there’s a new speaker. Notes election date will happen “later” “
Don’t like the sound of this... the caucus needs to ‘come together’ under a new Leadership. it needs to unite.
Oh, and McCarthy says he’s willing to stay on as Majority Leader.
You are correct.
I researched that right after I posted it and learned I was wrong
thank you
No. His voting record is very, very conservative. He does have a nuanced stance on amnesty after I spent some time looking at that. But my stance on amnesty is not nuanced so I withdraw my nomination. Jim Jordan it is then.
I’m sure Eric Cantor is SO disappointed that buddy McCarthy had to step down. One ‘Young Gun’ left .... Paul Ryan. Paul needs to take a hint and decide he needs more family time or something.
JIM JORDON
Very disheartening that no conservative has stepped up. Leadership is either in you or it isn’t.
Or go back to his tea party roots.
Boehner has suspended election of a new Speaker. Why?
Is it within the House Rules for him to do so?
