Russias military offensive in Syria is only a week old, but the casualties for American foreign policy are already mounting.
Gone is any slim hope President Obama might once have had about gradually improving relations with Iran, whose military envoys are helping buttress Syrias President Bashar al-Assad while Russia provides air cover.
Gone is any hope that Russian President Vladimir Putin, pressured by international economic sanctions imposed after the annexation of Ukraines Crimea, would out of self-interest pull back from confrontation with the United States and Europe or, as Obama administration officials liked phrasing it, that Putin would take an exit ramp.
Gone is the hope that diplomacy in recent weeks between the United States, Russia and Saudi Arabia might produce a negotiated settlement in Syria and stop the exodus of Syrians fleeing the violence. While Secretary of State John F. Kerry wants to pursue that avenue, another administration official last week called it a pipe dream. And the prospect seems even more remote now.
For Obama, who has faced a series of foreign policy tests, this test is one of the toughest.

Coalition forces still hitting ISIS more, Russia only propping up the cause of trouble.
On top of that, the Russkies tried to sell radioactive material to ISIS in Moldova.

The Mixed Faith Nation of Russia invaded the Christian Nation of Ukraine as well.
Things are getting pretty clear.
When you have them by their manly appendages their hearts and minds will follow.
Should have been “hopes for dhimmitude”
McCoy’s great cartoon, shows us the sad reality of the Poseur Potus in whatever he meddles in.
I know Putin is a thug and cannot be trusted. That doesn’t mean I cannot celebrate this bombing of Isis.
And Georgia, a country of 98% Christians. A punishment for them leaning west. That said, bombing ISIS is a good thing.
GOOD - Barack Obama trying to Implement regime change in Syria by overthrowing President Assad and replacing him with Muslim Brotherhood and other muslim terrorists to strengthen the new Islamic Caliphate
BAD - Vladimir Putin killing Obama supported terrorists and Trying To prop up President Assad to strengthen his own position in the mid-east
Leading from behind means eating someone else’s scraps.
We get about 15% from the ME. I guess we could make that up.
So if Putin does the job (stops the Muzz), all may turn out as rosy as you say!
We can make it up and more, the ME crisis will drive up sagging oil prices and net delivery costs here in the US are already sunk or factored into the profitability model. Remember the fight before this got muddy was can we Export our oil moreso and float with the commodities plays on the world market. If we put our own consumption-supply matrix for the US together we can sit here and never draw a drop from others while they play...
Russia pipeline, who gets what from where is all arranging the deck chairs for profit generation and turf. We have all the turf we want and need right here
All is Well...
This is all great news for Obama. If Russia kills off ISIS, Obama can say “see, my strategy to kill ISIS worked”. Then, Obama can blame the entire regional mess on Putin (since the old ‘blame Bush’ routine was getting worn out).
I swear it is funny to see Obama loving trolls from the State Department (such as yourself) talking to themselves on here. I guess it makes you FEEL better about yourself.
Recall these profound ‘postmodern’ comments concerning Afghanistan from Obama in 2009:
“I’m always worried about using the word ‘victory,’ because, you know, it invokes this notion of Emperor Hirohito coming down and signing a surrender to MacArthur,” Obama told ABC News.
What a putz.
