BRILLIANT! Watch Ted Cruz DESTROY Sierra Club President on Climate Change
The Right Scoop via Sen Ted Cruz ^ | 8-10-2015 | The Right Scoop via Sen Ted Cruz

This is excellent. Ted Cruz masterfully debates Sierra Club President, Aaron Mair, on Climate Change, asking him about the objective data that shows no significant warming trend in the last 18 years. But Mair only wanted to focus on a study that he agrees with, that says 97 percent of scientists say the earth is cooking or something and claims the science is settled and no longer up for debate. It was pathetic.

Cruz took him apart, exposing the fact that he doesn’t know what the heck he’s talking about, and then schooled a Democrat who objected.

I’m a mechanical engineer and I’ve only heard “datum” used in the context of a reference. It’s plural form is datums. Different concept than the singular form of data. I’d be curious what field of engineering you are in that people actually use datum (singular of data) in daily conversation. I’d be considered a pedant at my job if I used the word datum to convey the concept of a single piece of information.

Disparaging other engineers by saying they are engineers in title only is childish. Incidentally, this is the type of attitude that gives engineers a bad reputation.

Go google it. The issue has been discussed at full-length on freerepublic.com multitudes of times.
The gaps in your posting history point to alternative motives in your concern. My guess is that you simply work for another candidate. Heck, Go do a search on H1-B here on freerepublic archives.

Real engineers use datum in proper context. Data, as the plural of datum is frequently used in statistics, or in a database field with multiple records, but multiple sources of datum are used in multivariate expressions, such as singular records of multiple fields.

Many designers confuse and interchange the two words.

The word "data" is commonly used as a singular noun to describe any number of records of any number of fields.

Many designers confuse and interchange the two words.

What I describe is the common usage amongst the many hundreds of engineers that I work with and it's been like that for the 30 years that I've been doing it.

And addressing the original point, when the president of the Sierra Club says that the “data are” instead of the “data is”, he is using the uncommon usage of the data a a plural noun.

Data is the plural of datum: The data are there, or the datum is there.

Obama is a master teleprompter reader. Without that, he does not know enough, or even have the vocabulary, to debate anything.

Two guys started the Sierra Club, one died and I saw an interview with the other. He was asked why he resigned and said that he stayed until the commies took over. He was as matter of fact as he could be, it was like he thought everyone knew the commies ran it now.

97% of what scientists? “The scientists” means nothing.

Having worked with research scientists my whole career, I would venture to say it is not easy to get scientists to all agree on much of anything. This is especially true when data contradicts a conclusion.

These idiots are all in for a global government ruling over all the nations of the world. Since they are going for global control over the means of production (energy) of the globes economies, I would say it is a Marxist grab for centralized global power. Given what we have seen of Marxist governments, how dangerous would that be for humanity?

Are these people stupid or evil?

To flesh out the complete picture of this “front” man prez of the Sierra Club... wikipedia has a footnote with his
40 page curriculum vitae, 30 pages or so of which is the lawsuit he brought against Arbor Hill, NY mayor and development board for an incinerator that put out “toxins” (unproven) that irritated his daughter’s lungs.

A series of literally nothing jobs, but includes (based on political sway) a brief time with FEMA at the WTC (job started on 9/11/2001 and went for 4 months, detecting enviro hazards— recall hitlery’s representing for the workers enviro hazards- with a political slush fund).

His time in the Navy? 1.5 years as an OCS candidate at Rhode Island who didn’t complete the course and ‘honorably discharged’ (that is, washed out) as an E5.

The C.V very very thin on training (except as a GIS specialist for enviro hazard mapping- a buttinski iow) is filled with misspellings, typos and glaring format problems, and is the one he submitted to the Atty Gen. of NY State Vaccarro. Appalling. Were he to have interviewed with any top company (or in front of me) he would have been rejected for lack of competence, but uh, it ain’t his brains they want— it’s color coordination and political hackdom. Six figure income for an idiot.

Again, this is one dumba@@ mouthpiece, and Cruz tore him up, as well as his “braintrust” of fellow morons.

>> “I’m a mechanical engineer and I’ve only heard “datum” used in the context of a reference. It’s plural form is datums” <<

Yes.

A datum can be an entire system of measurement, such as NAVD 88 which provides for the ability of GPS units to give an approximation of elevation.

Or in archaeology a specific time datum can relate different epochs.

In statistics a datum as a part of an accumulation of data is often of great importance. A datum is often an arbitrary choice in an iterative analysis.

No, he was after the propagandistic value.

I have no alternative motives that you may imagine. I don’t work for any candidate. I’m just trying to decide who to vote for.

The Sierra Club prez is a joke. He can’t do anything except repeat one phrase over and over, like the trained parrot he apparently is. Brilliant cross-exam by Cruz!
