Russia has carried out a series of deadly airstrikes against the terrorist group over the last few days and Vladimir Putin has now sent the country's most elite special forces team into the war zone.
And speculation is heightening that offensive will be bolstered by the China's People's Liberation Army, following a number of reports of military movements in the region backed up by strong words from a senior government member at a United Nations meeting.
Reports emanating from the Middle East last week said China was planning on joining the fight against ISIS "in the coming weeks", according to a Syrian army official.
While Beijing insists it will abide by the United Nations (UN) in the region, hints of an action were backed up when it spoke strongly about a coordinated response to the rising terrorist threat.
Speaking of the Syrian crisis China's foreign minister Wang Yi said at the UN Security Council session in New York: The world cannot afford to stand by and look on with folded arms, but must also not arbitrarily interfere.
He added that nations should stand united against "violent extremist ideology".
Mr Wang and his opposite number in Russia, Sergey Lavrov met at length last week and afterwards Mr Lavrov said the two countries are in "similar positions" on many domestic and international iss
China has also shown solidarity with Syria, joining Russia in vetoeing UN proposals against Bashar al-Assad, which are likely to prevent him being referred by the council to the International Criminal Court.
The latest actions at the UN conference have come amid reports, citing key military sources, Chinese warships have made their way to Syrian shores through the Suez Canal.
It was said China's J-15 warplanes would launch from an aircraft carrier for attacks on ISIS.

China wants a chance to try out its new equipment and get its guys a little combat experience.
Its got only 700-odd days to achieve its territorial goals in SE Asia.
Hmmmm... Kings of the East?
Doing the job the US refuses to do.
3 permanent members of the UN Security Council using Syria as a proxy battleground.
Interesting times we live in...
Ruh roh
One from column “A” One from column “B” With two Obama gets ‘egg rolled’.
They are all GIANT bags of hot air.
A winning hand attracts support. China wants to be in a position to capitalize if ISIS, the Sunni jihadists and the House of Saud collapse. There will be a whole new alignment in the Mideast. Also someone will have to feed and organize Egypt’s non productive and underemployed masses. Good place to situate assembly plants to ship Chinese products and goods to the European market.
Doing the job the US has proven itself utterly and completely unable to do.
No matter how powerful our military, as weak and pathetic as our homefront has become, war of any kind or sort for any reason what-so-ever is a pointless endeavor for the US.
I was just thinking that (Kings of the East). Russia, China in place, just as the Bible said they would be. Amazing.
Russia, Iran and China may be the New A-Team, when it comes to use of military forces and territorial acquisition (aka invasion).
Who knows, they may have already planned on when China is going to take full control of Taiwan, turning it into another North Korea for a generation or two.
This may happen a year from now, while we are in the middle of a hot election season, and can’t be bothered to defend a little country like Taiwan. Samantha Powers and John Kerry think we should continue to stay out of China’s affairs.
This really is amazing. This will work to everyone’s (well everyone except Obammy and the rest of his Wahhabi buddies).... but for most this will be a successful merger. Even for Israel for at least a while. Who knows how long before it goes south.
It was said China’s J-15 warplanes would launch from an aircraft carrier for attacks on ISIS.
Oh, this should be interesting...
Let’s see if Damascus is nuked
And the good news is Obammy told the whole world the other day while he was speaking at the UN that his true strength was shown by negotiating.... not making war. That the really strong people and countries negotiate. Maybe Kerry can get Jane Fonda to go with him the next time he tries to negotiate?
Yep. I’ve been telling my friends for years...watch Damascus. The Bible is very explicit about the fate of that particular city.
Now China has allied with Russia against us, and you have caused this despite how much we have paid you, Barack?!
