Rep. Daniel Webster officially announced his bid for House speaker Tuesday morning, two days before the House GOP is slated to vote on a replacement to retiring Speaker John A. Boehner.
Mr. Webster, a third-term Republican from Florida, joins Rep. Jason Chaffetz, Utah Republican, as officially announced challengers hoping to deny the speakership to Rep. Kevin McCarthy, the current No. 2 who had seemed on a glide-path to ascend to the Houses top post.

I'm sure Webster would be good, but after looking at Rubio (Fla) and Bush (Fla) I just think Chaffetz from Utah would be a better choice...

Perhaps this is goodness... of the 3, nobody gets to be speaker on the first vote. Conservatives and Rinocrats’s will have to battle it out.

The Republican caucus is badly split. The establishment cronies want McCarthy, the conservatives want Webster. Chaffetz figures he can successfully be the split the difference candidate.
We need to Cantorize a lot more weasels.

I’d rather judge the individual than the group.
BTW wasn’t Chafetz somehow involved with bumping conservatives out of committees? I seem to remember that but I could be all wrong too.

Such an important decision. If Webster is truly the best choice, I pray he wins.

I thought when Webster ran against Boehner for Speaker this last time, Boehner kicked Webster out of a large committee...
I do know that the Secret Service has been investigating Chaffetz because he wanted some investigating done because of the drunken wreak the SS got into in front of the White House...but they have apologized and went on...

Louie Gohmert backs Webster because he thinks it will help to get more conservatives in committee assignments. Sounds good to me.
