Rep. Daniel Webster officially announced his bid for House speaker Tuesday morning, two days before the House GOP is slated to vote on a replacement to retiring Speaker John A. Boehner.
Mr. Webster, a third-term Republican from Florida, joins Rep. Jason Chaffetz, Utah Republican, as officially announced challengers hoping to deny the speakership to Rep. Kevin McCarthy, the current No. 2 who had seemed on a glide-path to ascend to the Houses top post.

Yes. He was Boehner’s errand boy. He also served as campaign chair for Dukakis while in college.
No thanks.
Today’s Webster should pick that up.
I'm starting to like this guy.
Most welcome, I tend to agree.
For those who don’t know, this Daniel Webster is actually DISTANTLY RELATED to THE great Senator and Orator, Daniel Webster of American history.

Thanks for the link.
Weasel is right!
Well, well, well....unfortunately we that live in Utah have been lied to...will make sure people here know more about this, and this to is my fault, I believed the lies...
Just moved back to Utah a couple of years ago, haven’t really been into Utah politics...
This is NOT good, sorry folks, I have some researching to do, and believe me, people here will hear from me on this subject....
Thank you for opening my eyes....but I still don’t trust people in Fla....Rubio or Bush......
Yeah, it was Chaffetz who kicked Mark Meadows off his committee on behalf of Boehner, and more or less set the events in motion that got us where we are now.
Can’t believe McCarthy is even being considered—the guy is clearly a moron.
I was unaware of his background, too - used to like him, actually.
During the Romney run I made a list of the Mormon official in both parties and found several articles supporting the concept that they were supporting each other over party line. Since then have been leery about giving too much power to one sub caucus. Including the SCOTUS with 7 of 9 from same denomination
This is a really good piece about his ideas. Also, Webster came close to knocking Boehner out before, now I think he’s got his ducks in a row. He announced his intent the same evening Boehner resigned.
Webster did this in Florida, with great success. He says it’s rebuilding the process the House uses. Principle-driven rather than power-driven.
No Webster.
Good article, thanks for linking.
I don’t understand why Webster hasn’t been in the news about running for Speaker. This article is the first I’ve seen on him other than the one I posted and it looks like he declared 8 days ago.
Have you seen other articles on him running?
Someone needs to get a photo of Daniel Webster with Obama.
The book title would be the perfect caption.
