Marco Rubio Admits: Amnesty Critics Have ‘Very Valid Argument’

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) still supports immigration reform, including the ability for illegal immigrants to apply for green cards. But in a recent media interview, he admitted that his quest for reform would be difficult to pass through Congress, even acknowledging that critics have a valid argument against it.

When asked by CNBC’s John Harwood if he still supported the Gang of Eight proposal allowing illegal immigrants should be allowed to apply for green cards in 10 years, Rubio indicated on CNBC that that he didn’t – because it would be impossible to pass. But Rubio admitted that he was open to the idea that illegal immigrants should be able to apply for green cards in the future.

...

“The argument you hear from people is, why should someone who came illegally be able to access citizenship or a green card faster than someone who came here legally,” he said. “It’s a very valid argument and one that will serve as a strong impediment to making progress on immigration.”

Someone who broke into the country should not have access to any benefits, PERIOD!

If they want to be immigrants, they need to go home and apply to be an immigrant.

"The only exception I might make is for kids who have grown up here as deportation to latin America would be extremely hard on them. "

See, now there you go.

Don't start negotiations by giving up ground, there's plenty of time for that later once we actually get to the table. Fortunately we have a candidate that knows this.

Voters matter once, money matters forever.

We don’t trust your sudden vision of the truth, Marco.

NO AMERICAN can rightfully cede his or her country to illegal aliens.

That is unconstitutional, so to do so make that American a traitor.

VOTE for TRUMP.

When he says in English he doesn’t support the gang of 8 proposal, does he say the same in Spanish?

Rubio has been known to advocate certain policies in one language and deny them in the other.

Rubio speaks with twisted tongue.

I am up for amnesty, providing the first two items are 100% resolved.<

Really? Do you understand the costs of amnesty? Do you understand that when you reward something, you get more of it? Why should we provide amnesty to lawbreakers who flout our laws in multiple ways beyond just entering illegally? Why should we legalize more workers who can then compete legally against Americans for jobs? Why should we create more future Dem voters?

If we "only" have 12 million illegal aliens, the cost will be $6.3 trillion. The real number of illegal aliens could be two to three times higher.

I’ll object and state that any bill that doesn’t start with “NO welfare, of ANY kind, shape, matter nor form...”. The wall, if still needed, can be built after ~5 yrs. of the halting of ALL immigration (for assimilation purposes)

One comes to the U.S. to make it great(ER), not attach to the teet.

“It’s a very valid argument and one that will serve as a strong impediment to making progress on immigration.”

Notice, progress on immigration is the main idea, the argument against amnesty is only a minor detail, which only requires acknowledgement and then dismissal.

All true, Rubio lies all the time, sometimes in two languages.

At least with ¡Yeb! he is honest about wanting to turn the USA into North Mexico

Utter crapolla.

Working both sides of the street at the same time.

And the claim that he doesn’t support the Gang of 8 proposal because it wouldn’t pass is completely specious. “I support it if it would pass, but I don’t support it if it wouldn’t”

There’s a lot that I like about Marco Rubio. He’s good on the social issues, and he’s strong and knowledgeable on foreign policy. He communicates well, and is an attractive candidate that could have broad appeal with the electorate. However, until and unless he clears up his position on illegal immigration, I have my misgivings about him. Right now I favor Cruz.

His stance in favor of the Gang of 8 amnesty program was, for me, a huge disappointment. I like the guy, and he is very solid on foreign and defense policy. But since that time, I simply cannot support him. Too much immigration will overwhelm both the conservatives and the budget in this country, and speed our downfall. If he’s too dense or self-interested to see that, as he appears to be, then he lost my vote - PERMANENTLY.

I am for rewarding/repaying/forgiving a young man who came into the US illegally but had the spirit to put his life on the line in the military for the US and what he believed as to our Constitution. I have memories of many young US citizens who declined to do such and in fact chose to go against the interests of the US.
