I believe Russia is getting overextended, what with their Ukraine entanglement and now Syria. The GDP of Russia is not even equal to that of Italy and depressed commodity prices are playing havoc with their economy. I suspect part of the reason to be in the Middle East is to tighten up world oil supplies by the threat of oil embargoes or an expansion of hostilities. Take out one Saudi oil well and the price of oil doubles overnight.

“Take out one Saudi oil well and the price of oil doubles overnight.”

Taking out all of Saudi Arabia would be just fine by me... Oil or no oil. Along with all the other countries in the ME except Israel.

Rick Joyner, a Christian pastor, has said that Russia’s economy is heavily dependent on oil revenues, but oil prices are low right now. So Russian wants to ally with other Middle Eastern countries and pressure Saudi Arabia to reduce some of its oil output so oil prices can rise.
