When I was in high school in the mid 1970s my friends and I all brought our hunting rifles to school during deer season. We kept them in our vehicles during the day, but frequently showed them off to teachers and friends in the parking lot at lunch. Immediately after school let out, we would head out to our deer blinds.

Mass shootings were never an issue back then, because there were no "gun free zones" where criminals and terrorists would have the peace of mind of knowing that all of their victims would be unarmed.

I carried my .22 target rifle through the school because the range was in the basement, and the rifle team sold ammo to raise money.
