Here’s a surprise – Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton and Republican rising star Carly Fiorina agree on something big. Both think the US should declare and enforce a no-fly zone in Syria to protect civilians and US-backed rebel fighters.
Former Secretary of State Clinton’s pronouncement on this emphasized its humanitarian aspects. “I personally would be advocating now for a no-fly zone and humanitarian corridors to try to stop the carnage on the ground and from the air,” she said in an interview with WHDH TV in Boston.
Former Hewlett Packard CEO Fiorina’s words on the subject were more about fighting. She told Fox News’s Sean Hannity that the US needs to secure a no-fly zone around US-backed anti-Assad rebel forces.

Carly, thanks for the heads up about wanting to start WWIII. This isn’t Lucent or HP you’re setting up for destruction, nobody’s going to give you a golden parachute, and enforcing a no fly zone against Russian aircraft isn’t quite like doing it against Saddam. Doubling down on Obama’s and McCain’s follies is just plain stupid.
This option simply isn’t viable. The U.S will have no or little control over Syria and Iraq.
The question is who’s going to get Iraq? Certainly not the Iraqis. It’s Iran or Russia, Turkey a distant 3. That whole swath from Iran, Iraq, Syria Lebanon is in jeopardy.
Saudi Arabia will remain a stalwart but for how much longer? Egypt will be reluctant to deal with the U.S because of betrayal of the secular government there.
