'This is a major world event': The Syrian war is now fueling a 'global cold war'

One day after launching a campaign of airstrikes in Syria, Russia announced that it is considering going into Iraq.

A foreign ministry representative said Thursday that Russia would consider any request from Iraq to conduct anti-ISIS airstrikes in the country, and Iraqi President Haider al-Abadi told Western news outlets that Russian airstrikes were "a possibility" and that Iraq would "welcome it."

"Our message to the Russians — I met with Putin — please join this fight against Daesh," Abadi told PBS NewsHour. Daesh is another name for ISIS.

"Daesh is a dangerous terrorist organization, not only against Iraq, against Syria, against the whole region, against the whole world. It is time that we all join the same forces to fight Daesh."

This escalation signifies a "fundamental shifting of the balance of power in the Middle East," Ali Khedery, the longest continuously serving American official in Iraq, told Business Insider in an interview.

Khedery called the Russian strikes a "major world event" and compared the country's actions to the formation of the Axis Alliance leading up to World War II.

"Now, an alliance really is consolidating and formalizing," Khedery said. "There is now a Shia axis locked in combat across Iraq, Syria, and Yemen. I expect an expansion of the conflict in the months and years ahead. This has the potential to escalate into a regional war, a holy war, and global cold war."

If we are starting a new Cold War, or even a new world war, we should at least have a policy.

The standard for articulating a clear policy was set for ever by Winston Churchill as England was about the stand alone:

You ask, what is our policy? I will say: It is to wage war, by sea, land and air, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us; to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark and lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy. You ask, what is our aim? Obama has no policy and that means that everybody who can get to a microphone or to a keyboard is advising us about tactics. Tactics should be in service of strategy and strategy in service of policy. The sequence is significant and should not be reversed.

Let us have no discussion of no-fly zones or any other tactical moves until we know what our policy is. What is the endgame? Most significant, where do American national interests lie?

Why we would want to make a cold war out of Russia defending Orthodox Christians in Syria is beyond me. Yes, Assad is brutal, but he’s much better than the Saudis, the Turks, or any of the other anti-christian genocidal regimes we prop up. And whereas they murder Christians and other religious minorities, Assad’s brutality has defended Christians and other religious minorities against Islamicist extremists.

In every action that Hussein is involved in from Obamacare to planned parenthood to race relations, he is on the side of those planning America’s demise.

If a terrorist supporting traitor was elected to be President, he would do exactly the same things Hussein Obama is doing.

Hussein Obama came from obscurity with no record of accomplishment and a pedigree that was sealed so that Americans could not even see the courses he took in college much less the grades he made. By the time you figure out WHO Hussein Obama is and how he became President by fraud and deceit, your relatives will be dying in terrorist attacks in schools, workplaces and shopping places in neighborhoods across the country.

The Muslims have millions who want to kill Americans and Hussein is working overtime to get them into the country before his insane treason is stopped.

I think he not only wants to bring America down, and suffocate it with debt, foreign workers, a mess of healthcare, corrupted society, but he also wants total chaos in the Middle East. And it’s there, from Libya, to Egypt, to Yemen, to Iraq under ISIS, some in Afghanistan and in Syria.

And a little bonus of creating a major refugee with some embedded jihadists into Europe.

It’s unprecedented and it will have exactly the consequences that we’re all very, very concerned about.
