A LONE gunman has shot dead a police IT expert outside police HQ in Charles Street, Parramatta, before being gunned down by police.
The shooter, believed to be of Middle Easter appearance, launched an attack from the street, peppering the front of the building.
He shot a police IT worker before being gunned by special constables who guard the entrance.
The Daily Telegraph understands a number of shots were fired in the attack in the street close to a childcare centre used by police force families.
There is no confirmation it was a terrorist attack.
Police had warning of the attack through intelligence sources, The Daily Telegraph can confirm.

But, but, but, the Klown just told us last night “these things don’t happen” in Australia!
It is basically true that Australia no longer has ‘single gunmen massacres’ after having a lot of them in the late 1980s and early 1990s. But there’s other types of gun crime besides that.
Conflating it all together really isn’t all that helpful - in either the US or Australia.
Sounds like trouble down under and I guess the ‘gunman’ or ‘gunmen’ remain at large.
It’s hard to get accurate information at this point but it looks like at most two gunmen, at least one of whom is dead.
Muslim???
I read the early report about the police having advance knowledge of the attack, didn’t read carefully your post indicating they killed a gunman at scene.
They haven’t said - but it only happened three hours ago. Details like that would not be released for a while, probably not until tomorrow at least (it’s Friday evening here).

Alrighty then.
If he was a Muzzie, would the Australian media bury it like the US media would?
Fred , whats up with this? The news seems to be spotty. Was there 1 gunman or two? Was one killed and the other at large?
Generally, no. There are some parts of the media that are pretty PC about things like that, but most will report that type of fact pretty clearly.
A sad reminder from the 2014 massacre in China that SIN AND EVIL kills people, not guns or knives.
P.S. SIN and EVIL are synonyms of Izl@m.
Such a pity the assailant’s motive will never be known.
Wait a minute!
This isn’t supposed to happen outside the States - at least according to Obama.
I don’t know any more than the little that has been reported.
Authorities in Australia and the USA seem to be keeping details from the public to further investigations into web sites and e-mail.
But also this has the effect of pacifying growing public cynicism of Islam and radicals, and adversary feelings from th e public against the umma and other radicals. In fact that should be happening, but for some reason the governments do not want the public ire to arise. This public ire will arise sooner or later as we continue to be targets of both the jihad and other radical movements. When it does, much of the problem involving domestic terrorism will be solved.

The gunman who shot dead a police employee at a station in Sydney’s west yesterday has been identified as a radicalised 15-year-old boy.
The black-clad gunman approached the Charles Street building in Parramatta at about 4.30pm yesterday and executed finance worker Curtis Cheng at point-blank range.
Security guards and police officers returned fire from the building’s lobby, with a special constable killing the armed teen.
NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione said today initial investigations suggested the boy was working alone in an act of terrorism.
Were a long way from establishing a full picture of this man, Mr Scipione said.
I can confirm he is a 15-year-old boy.
He is of a Kurdish-Iraqi background and he was born in Iran.
We believe his actions were politically motivated and therefore linked to terrorism.
There are more where he came from:
British teen sentenced to life in jail over Melbourne Anzac Day terror plot

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was 14 when he exchanged thousands of phone messages with the alleged Melbourne jihadist, urging him to carry out a knife attack on officers in the name of the ISIL terror group.
In Manchester Crown Court, Justice John Saunders sentenced the boy to life because he concluded he was still dangerous to the public.
The revelation in this case that someone of only 14 could have become so radicalised that he was prepared to carry out this role intending and wishing that people should die is chilling, Justice Saunders said.
