Former Secretary of State Colin Powell, who endorsed President Obama in 2008 and 2012, told the Washington Ideas Forum that there’s a special reason why he doesn’t change his party affiliation.
Powell confirmed that he’s still a registered Republican. “I want to continue to be a Republican because it annoys them,” he quipped.
“I think the party has shifted much further right than where the country is and it should be obvious to party leaders that they cannot keep saying and doing the things that they were doing and hope to be successful in national-level election in the future, not just in 2016,” he added.
Powell cited “pockets of intolerance” within the Republican Party that the GOP “had better figure out how to defeat.”
He also said that immigration rhetoric within the party is an Achilles’ heel.
“I think most Republicans understand that we need immigration, we are an immigrant nation, it is in our best interest to do it,” he said.
“…If I was around Mr. Trump — Donald, who I know rather well — I would say, ‘You know, Don, let’s see what happens — let’s tell all the immigrants working in Trump hotels to stay home tomorrow. Let’s see what happens.”

Who is Colin Powell?
Powell was a perfect fit for the Bushes. RINO meet RINO.
For some reason I never saw Colin Powell as a true US ‘should be’ person at any position. His racism started to show once he was no longer a power person. I never considered him an idiot but more like a blathering want to be person.
I’m sure he is tied in with Arabists like James Baker.

When folks start buying into racism against Blacks across the board, their perceived IQ drops 100 points on my radar.
Name one nation that has spent the money we have trying to give the underprivileged a hand up, mostly designed to help Blacks. We gift them with all sorts of perks. They get preferential treatment when it comes to education. This is tantamount to reverse discrimination.
Powell buys into it. That does impact my view of his intellect considerably.
So his commitment is only to being irritating- congratulations on success. He irritates me and proves that in a pinch most blacks resort to the race card far too often.
Colon is really saying that he enjoys being the turd in the punch bowl.
Secretary Powell deliberately conflates legal vs illegal immigrants. Only those here without permission have anything to worry about.
Some years ago, my son worked at an Asst. Mgr at a seasonal business, an amusement park. They hired boatloads of students, etc. to work over the typical busy summer months. But what many people do not understand is that employees are required in the months ahead and after the busy hectic summer season. These are jobs that students cannot fill. People seeking work are not interested in these jobs because, if they take them, they do not last long enough even to qualify for unemployment compensation. No sane person on benefits gives those up for a temporary job like this, which barely above minimum wage. This is where temporary, seasonal LEGAL immigrant labor comes in. They come in, work for a while, and go home.
It is well known in the business that Trump properties do not hire illegal immigrants. You can ask anyone who works there.
If Secretary Powell were given a dollar for every illegal immigrant working at a Trump hotel, he would be on a corner in NYC sitting there with a cup, begging for donations.
