Boehner secretly urged Gowdy to run for leader

Speaker John Boehner secretly met with Rep. Trey Gowdy Tuesday to encourage him to jump into the race for House majority leader, a dramatic attempt by the chamber’s top Republican to try to influence the intraparty election.

The previously undisclosed meeting reveals new behind-the-scenes involvement by Boehner, who has not endorsed any candidates in the leadership race. That the Ohio Republican inserted himself in the contest underscores his concern about who succeeds him in GOP leadership. Boehner requested the meeting after word spread that Gowdy was considering a bid for the post.

Many Republicans close to Boehner and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy believe Gowdy could help protect the California Republican’s right flank. McCarthy allies fear hard-line conservatives could block his ascent to the speaker’s chair during the vote on the House floor, throwing the chamber into turmoil.

Boehner (R-Ohio) “has always been a fan of Trey’s and thinks he’s done a tremendous job as chairman of the Benghazi select committee and he thinks he would do the same thing if he had gotten into the leader race,” said one Boehner confidant with knowledge of the meeting.

The thinking among Boehner allies is that “Trey as leader certainly would’ve helped ease the minds, not just of the Freedom Caucus, but he had broad support in the conference.”

But Gowdy (R-S.C.) said late Tuesday that he had no interest in running for the No. 2 position in House leadership, and he would prefer to remain atop the Benghazi select committee.

I call him T.V. Trey because he always holds pointless hearings on TV that never result in anything being done.

this could be gope attempt to sabotage gowdy by faking a secret boehner push for gowdy

Gowdy did that himself with his TPA vote enabling Obamatrade & pushing for amnesty. Don’t feel bad, I was once fooled by Gowdy also. But sadly he is careerist GOPe all the way.

“Sorry folks. If people would simply look at who these people associate with, there would be no shocks like this and no horror at how they govern.”

This and checking who their biggest political donors are. Do both, and you will likely never fail!

I think the fact that Gowdy wants to stay at the head of the Bengahzi committee scares ole John boy. Remember he is the 3rd ranking in power and knows the true story of what happened.

It is one thing to look like weasel.
Entirely another thing to act like a weasel.
Sell out you country, your constituents, your family.
You had an opportunity to bring some truth to the US public and even the world about the scoundrels and thieves that surround you.
FU Trey........another phoney.
You will be judged.....especially in South Carolina!!!

Yup. Easily a 95% success rate or more. Or, like us. 100%

Dead on. Every time.

And anyone could do it because it really is that obvious. no skill. No luck. No divine intervention. Just freaking paying attention and not lying to ones self about what the facts show them.

Trey, the darling of the diluded, was conveniently absent the day there was a vote for the Speaker’s position but said he would have voted for the cry-baby. Screw Boner. Anyone he supports is tainted meat.

We should look at annexing W. Virginia too. BTW hows our museum overlooking Coronado coming? Did you find any likely sites for construction? ;)

Kidding aside, it’s what you and I have said over and over. It was right then and it’s right now. And it was right 2000 years before you or I understood the truth of it in the age of Obama.

Anger at the Republican Congress will be epic with the coming sellouts by Boner and McWeasal to fund the government through November 2016 and continue to kowtow to obama, reid and pelosi.

The GOPE is hoping that in sacrificing Boner they can placate the conservative base, calm dissent and anger at Congress by November 2016 and bring them back on to the plantation for more future abuse and more importantly for their votes.

This is for Majority Leader and not Speaker. GOPe is looking for a good porch conservative to mollify our opposition. Just more kabuki theater from them here. If they spent this much time fighting the kenyan they might actually win a few battles.

You are correct of course. Exactly correct.

I'm starting to wonder about FR. It shouldn't take 14 posts on this topic to finally read what should be obvious to all.

I heard Boehner ramble in hate towards conservatives, I call bull on this. IF he said it, it was to mock conservatives. He hates us. Good riddance, to his tanned hide.
