Bear in mind that whenever cuts loom (even minor one’s) agencies act swiftly to shut down things like national parks, threaten delays in social security checks, stop processing applications, etc. They will claim that resource constraints prevent them from performing vital services and they will get their friends in the media to launch a campaign of disinformation to rile up the people. Agencies are well-schooled in the art of protecting themselves.
Yes, there is such a thing a buyouts but generally that only applies to those with a lot of years of service. And even then, they may not leave.
The point is, it won’t be an easy thing to accomplish and it will take a lot of thoughtful planning.

I don’t know, it does seem like things have become a bit peaceful on the Ukraine/Russian border or would it be better said, in the land seized by the rebels.
And at least, I believe there has been somewhat of an effective ceasefire in that region as well.

Reforming just one agency is a monumental task. There are legislative constraints and hard political realities. Do you have any idea what the financial implications would be of terminating the legions of contractors working for the government? And then there are office leasing obligations. Most agencies have offices all over the country. You just don’t pull the plug; contracts are binding two way agreements.
Even rebuilding is problematic. Where are all the new people coming from? I’ve worked for government and private industry and much prefer the latter. So do millions of other people. Working for the government is just not an attractive option for highly qualified people with talent and skill sets that are in demand.
You can’t be simplistic and naïve about the scope of issues involved with downsizing. We need to cut, and drastically so, but trust me — its far easier said than done in reality.

Believe me, I’ve seen more waste, redundancy, mismanagement and political favoritism than most people will ever see. I’m not missing anything about what needs to be done.
Public employee unions were spawned via executive order. They can be decertified just as easily. At-will employees can be sent down the road kicking cans for any undisclosed reason, at any time.

I point to what Barry has done and how he did it. Force of will. Thats how to undo it. Yes. It will be financial carnage. Yes it will be massive unemployment.
The Iceland bank situation shows that it’s managable. Easier to manage the carnage than to maintain the problems. Most of these jobs are a false economy. The regs eliminated with these depts would immeadiately create a boomtown from atlantic to Pacific. And globally.

Please show me where you saw this. This is patently false. Government workers are not at-will employees.
Employees of federal and state governments cannot be fired without cause. Not only that, but government employees are entitled to due process before they are terminated.
Government employees: Federal, state and local government workers are protected by the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments, which prohibit the government from depriving any person of “life, liberty or property” without due process of law. The procedures that federal government agencies must follow when terminating an employee appear in the Civil Service Reform Act of 1978.
The federal government and the private sector handle cutbacks differently. In “Corporate America” the ax falls suddenly. But in the case of downsizing the federal government warns its employees of cutbacks several months in advance so that terminated employees have a way to support themselves when the pink slip arrives. The advance warning gives federal employees a couple of options for how they want to deal with the impending cutback. The old adage, “last hired, first fired” applies when federal cutbacks happen. Typically, longtime employees and military veterans are safe. Additionally, federal agencies also want to retain their female and minority employees.
But again, government workers are not at-will employees.
We will need a strong personality at the top. Stronger even than Reagan IMO. The congress, the Democrats, and the media will howl loudly and make the president look like Attila the Hun at the first hint of downsizing the government. We could even see riots in the street (stirred up by the usual suspects). I hope we elect someone with the metal to do it. Our national debt is a train wreck just waiting to happen.
Unfortunately all free nations/semi free devolve to dictators eventually. It has yet to fail. It sucks but once a people become ungovernable, it’s the logical progression.
