I agree with you about that “values” crowd. They were a school of cold fish for Donald, and had their mind made up for their choices when they unfolded their chairs. They also were a little prim for the name calling, and you know Donald. He likes to throw pie meringue around in a contest.

I respect Trump for showing up, but this was a niche crowd and he is, imho, a more secular man. This crowd pretty much wanted choir boys. How they landed so cheerfully on Rubio, the Catholic Baptist, I’m sure I don’t know. :) lol.

Hey Rita,

I didn’t post the thread to bang on Donald, but only to suggest that Cruz’s performance aided him in Iowa. I have no clue why this thread is in “breaking news”— I didn’t put it there.

As you indicate, Trump is appealing more to the secular anti-establishment folks, of which there are many; Cruz the religious folks. I surmise that was the Trump/Cruz deal, energize the disenfranchised for their mutual benefit.

Objectively, as to Trump, though I know he prides himself on “off the cuff”- perhaps, in certain arenas, it might be better to have prepared remarks. Here, perhaps he could have had staffers flag a few passages from the Bible, to give him some structure. For instance, Cruz always says- “you shall know they by their fruits—” then he goes off on a political rant. Trump could have done the same.

But, he’s at 30%, this episode won’t harm him with those who are his base support. It did help Cruz energize his base.
